an almost gun topic................
back in january I bought myself a break barrell pellet rifle is supposed to be in the 1200 foot second or however they rate them. It is one of the nitrogen shocks instead of a spring. It came with a 4 power scope but I could never get it sighted in. it would shoot one or two in same place then throw them all over by 6-8 inches then maybe split holes again for few shots. I tried different pellets ect. it didn't come with open sights so I couldn't try that, and was only shooting maybe 30-40 feet.
got it out the other day and tried again as weather was nice, same old problem, I went and dug through the gun cabinet and found an old 5 moa reddot, only problem it was for weaver base, 5/8 inch, and dovetail on rifle is 3/8, I tried to engineer a few mounts but gave up and ordered an adapter from dovetail on bottom to weaver top rail. just got the reddot mounted and it is almost splitting holes if the dot wasn't so big at that close a distance I think I could put them all inside a dime/nickle size group. close enough for me to get rid of a few bird seed stealing squirrells, them poor fellows better stay hidden this spring or they are gonna end up dinner. I was kicking golf balls out to 60-70 feet every shot after that maybe 2-3 out of 5. good enough for these old eyes. guess the grandaughter may have new squirrel gun this fall she is 8, no recoil just not sure if she can hold it proper, as it is close to 7 lbs.

Sounds like the OEM scope wasn't a purpose built air gun scope. Parallax is a huge problem when using ordinary rifle scopes, even rimfire scopes, on air rifles. Without a way to "dial out" the parallax you'll never put three shots in the same place. Even two is rare. Red dots don't have this issue, which makes them well suited for just about everything that shoots. 0 -
Mark not sure if the scope was purpose built for the air rifle, but it was the one that came with it, I have been told the nitruous piston is easier on scopes than the old spring power. not sure, but I am guessing the scope was bad, I could see drifting 3-4 inches at that close distance but it was moving closer to 8-10 between shots I know I shake and have old eyes but I knew I wasn't that bad!! the reddot proved that, now I have something to do if I get bored I can go set on the back porch and knock golf balls all over the back yard with it.......

I have a break barrel Pneumatic (Nitro) Chinese Air rifle, (.177cal) that is wicked accurate. Easily 1200fps.

Had a real problem here for a couple years. Not any longer.
I do not like/enjoy killing anything, (but) Feral Cats are another matter.0 -
Maybe the "scope base" didn't jive with the angle of the dangle of the barrel like my RWS Diana's barrel points down so I had to get a scope mount to compensate. 0
