Chinese Buffet -
Hit em' on the way home. (Panda Garden.)
About a pound/pound and a half of fried pepper shrimp. Three Chicken Teriyaki kabobs, Thai Chicken, Korean Chicken, about a half a pound of steamed fresh green beans in garlic, sweet and sour pork, a large steamed Salmon fillet, three egg rolls, 5 spring rolls, copious amounts of fresh diced chives over all, (sure I am missing something.) I've not dived in yet. I've been spending quality time with the dog, and getting the woodstove cranking. (Down to about 29* tonight.)
I make my own rice, when I get home.
At 3:30 pm, it is still "Lunch," price. ($4.99/lb.)
($16.00.) A killer deal for the money. (3-4 meals.)
What you got going?

The "Pepper Shrimp?"
Lightly fried in a Tempura/Panko type breading. An extremely fine diced (serrano or similar) pepper. Lightly spicy. Very succulent. Best deal around for $4.99/lb.
Just ate about 1 1/2lb. with sweet and sour sauce. (Mmmnnnnnn good.) An egg roll, two spring rolls, and a couple (additionally) baked to crispy Chicken Teriyaki kabobs. (Kikkoman Soy sauce on top.)
Very good, inexpensive eats.

Beef, turkey or cicken?
Myers Angus ground beef 85/15 with half a yellow onion diced and cooked with the meat. Already diced a tomato, sliced an avocado and tore-up some lettuce. My wife is cooking the corn tortillas now while her mom instructs her how to do it. I'm smart enough to do my part and get the hell out of my kitchen when instructions are flying. :P
On ours
Wife does 50/50 mix sirloin/turkey with red beans, onions on the hot side. Lately on the cold side shaved jack cheeze, tomato, halopino pepers...
Served on Romaine lettus leaves to save a few bread calories.
Goes nice with a cold ale or room temp red wine0 -
I have long joked that the inheritance of the Golden Spike (joining of the transcontinental railroad) was 1,000 bad Chinese restaurants here in Ogden. It is hard to go a block without a Chinese restaurant or buffet. At one major intersection, there are two adjacent ones, and one across the street!
I find that Chinese places all seem to start out great - even the buffets - but soon spiral down into "wouldn't touch it on a bet" as far as food quality goes. Their food safety I don't even want to think about. Yet we have some that have been open and drawing Utah crowds for decades. I privately think that's because the Chinese have figured out that Utahns don't like real Chinese food, so they've learned to cook "Chutahn" stuff: very bland, very sweet, and piles of it.0 -
A good rule of thumb: Never go to a chinese buffet located next to a veterinary hospital. 0 -
But they always have the freshest meats!cbxjeff wrote:A good rule of thumb: Never go to a chinese buffet located next to a veterinary hospital.0 -

We used to go to the Chinese boofat occasionally but they kept raising the price until finally I said NO. The class of people I saw there wasn't up to my standards and the food wasn't much better. 0 -

Sorry, Ken. I had no choice.

Every Chinese buffet I was ever in had food fit only for Ricci, right up there with Taco Bell and KFC. Probably needless to say it has now been years since I was last in one. And I am not even very picky. 0 -
Last one I ate at a very long time ago... just three letters MSG... 0 -
Not really a "Chinese" buffet more like "Asian" fusion buffet. 0 -

I wish there was a site to check for the number of stray cats in an area... that'd be a sure tell for Chinese restaurants...0 -

Germ and bacteria infested playground. Just think of all the nasty stuff that's on the handles of the serving spoons/tongs. 0 -
I've eaten at the "Grand China Buffet" in LaVale, MD several times. Great assortment. I've never thought about getting the take out and making rice at home. You're right, a great meal for a reasonable price. 0 -
There is nothing better than a good, thick marbled steak on the grill.

While I am Shocked, that this has gone to two pages, (you'uns need help/entertainment.)
You'uns do not appreciate good food.

On another note, the same "Buffet," has recently started a Mongolian Grill. You pick from an assortment of Raw food, and they prepare it on the grill.
The uncooked chicken in the large tray, looks absolutely scary. I wouldn't touch it on a bet. (Someone is going to get Seriously I'll from that stuff.)
We were laughing in the breakroom the other day, commenting that they probably use the worst of it to make the "Other," Chicken dishes.

Seriously rethinking my visits there, after viewing the Raw chicken on display in the Samonila bath.
