Target Stands

Made a couple of target stands for the farm.

The one is made of 2x4's. I added wheels to it so I can store it out of the weather.

The other, made out of 4x4's will sit at the end of the 1/2 mile lane.

All of the wood was from a machine crate from work.

    Great minds think a like . I have a rolling stand almost exactly like the one you built .i use a large sheet of foam board as a backer to hang my targets on . It is cheap ie free from tearing down one of our retired chicken houses . The wheels from a junked push mower

    I've been using a couple of old realtor sign frames for 20 years. Takes almost no room. Just jab it into the ground and shoot.

    Same here. They work great and they're easy to carry.

    I used PVC 1/2" once for a frame to pattern turkey loads. Didn't work. The shot (#4) hit the frame and split it in a few places. It was really cheap though. And flimsy. Wood is definitely the way to go.

    I have some steel frame ones that I made that I can push into the ground but, I wanted something more substantial and to be able to place my target at different heights. Heights for bench shooting, or, defensive shooting.
    Not too many times that your target for defensive shooting is two feet off the ground.

    For only the cost of a trip down the hill to the sawmill, I got a load of various sized slabs and used them for target stands. Sure they'll rot out in 2-3 years but then I'll build more.

    I like them... I made mine out of 2*2 and again with 2*4s. Ricochets and misses keep putting holes in them. Next stop, 4*4s probably.

    always good to recycle and good use of the material

    we have used about anything . my youngest son has made wooden ones very often ;) . they get shot to pieces even metal swing set style ( all have had a few holes put thru them ) when we have the family and friends back yard shoot ( lots of younger shooters in the group nieces and nephews so its still fun even to replace a few dollars in lumber or skid material ) a friend of my sons made a dueling tree out of armor plates he bought off some internet site its held up very well with pistol rounds ( no rifle ) currently there is a old fridge from the last shoot with several hundred holes in it my son has not hauled off yet we save up cardboard boxes large enough to use also in between shoots
    even had a car one year :lol:
