Air rifles
Okay gang school me on air rifles. In the market for one in the $100 to $200 dollar range. What do I look for ? For what it is worth I will be buying it at wholesale thru the gun store I work at so I guess retail wil put it at 2 to 3 hundred. I like the looks of the RWS Ruger Air Mag combo . But I need help!

I have the Beeman that came with 2 barrels .177 and .22.
It has beautiful wood. I bought it used but it shoots great. All i have used is the .177 barrel but i would recommend it to you.0 -
There once was a single under lever pump from Daisy with an avanti stock and a lomar Walther barrel and match dioptor target sights - adjustable buttplate and cheek piece - bbl weight...
Early versions were nice stained walnut but later versions had a multi color laminate ("Frost wood" style)
Sold through the NRA as part of the junior marksmanship program
I used one to earn my 5 and 10 meter air rifle distinguished expert status and also used it in biathlon and silhouette sanctioned shoots
Has an integral rail for optics or upgraded iron sights
Amazing entry level competition piece
For pest control and plinking I would look at RWS break opens in .177 or .22 package gums that come with a scope and iron sights and some accessories like shooting glasses and match grade pellets and a patch

I've tried several that were supposed to whisper, shame is as velocity has improved so has sound signature, even the "silent" models in that price range are too loud to be sneaky, Hell my neighbor thought I was setting off fireworks! On the other hand I have two that are EXTREMELY accurate out to 25 yards and I can shoot the balls off a tree rat at that distance. 0 -
+1 and if you forget to load a pellet, it sounds a lot louder than a 22......... my only experience is with the new crossman nitro, they and other brands use a nitro filled shock absorber like, instead of a spring. I've got a Beeman .177 that makes somewhere around 1100fps.
Pros: Single cock/charge break barrel
Accurate when clean
Good selection of pellet styles
Two pigeons on the roof line up, through and through on both
Cons: Spring air guns are hell on scopes because of reverse recoil. They will knock the lenses out of most cartridge rifle scopes. Even with a good air rifle
scope, they'll make the rings slip on the receiver.
You have to use special airgun "Non-Flammable" oil, the pressure these guns generate will ignite flammable gun oils, and destroy the seals.
At these velocities with soft lead pellets, barrels lead up, accuracy is gone. Cleaning lead out of a .17cal bore is a PITA!
Loud, a .22Short HiSpeed from a 24" barrel makes less noise.
I had a Sheridan Blue Streak 5mm I regret selling. At 10 pumps it would chrono 750+fps, pass through two 1" cedar fence boards, and one shot kills on big jackrabbits at 50yrds. If I was looking for another pellet gun, it's what I would buy, and it's in your price range.0 -
3-4 years back I bought Nitro-Piston 1000fps .177 as a starling plunker and off the deck practice rifle. Totally and absolutely WORTHLESS is too nice.
I don't know how much one has to spend for a high velocity accurate air rifle but $200 didn't buy it for me.0 -
I probably have 20 pellet rifles.For springers I like RWS but they are pricey.The crude,cheap Chinese B-3s they sold at every flea market were fun and cheap,but the price has gone through the roof on them.I see used ones for $60.+. The most accurate 177 pellets I found are lead RWS Hobby,but most 177 pellets lose accuracy at over about 800-850 FPS.Probably the most powerful,accurate pellet rifles I have is a Chinese made Tech-Force 99 in 22.My favorites are the old walnut stock,brass barrel Benjamin,Crosman and Sheridan pump up.I will still buy and rebuild them. 0 -

Use air rifles all the time around the place to shoot rabbits, crows and feral cats. German made RWS Diana 34 in .22 cal is a mainstay. Good power and excellent accuracy.
My favorite is my Beeman R9 in .22 cal, made in Germany by Weihrauch. Excellent quality rifle. Put a Hawke Sport Optics Vantage 4-12x50 air rifle scope on it. It also has a fully adjustable 2-stage trigger and I can shoot one dime-sized ragged hole off my rest with it. Kills big jackrabbits and crows like they were hit with a hammer.

Ten? That would play hell on the seals but I don't know how you got that many in. I believe seven is about optimal. I had a Silver Streak for maybe twenty years before I sold it at a gun show for more than I paid for it. One problem with the Sheridan is finding pellets for it.0
