Lets make some more new Laws
Tragedy often times springs forth a flurry of legislation, "feel good" we call it.
While I can't even imagine the pain felt by the family of the young lady who was stabbed to death by a black male she mistook for her Uber or Lyft driver, the fact is she was either drunk or stupid and didn't use the existing protections already in place to prevent this from happening.
The app provides an arrival time, license number, picture of the driver, Etc. For what ever reason she used none of these protections. The push for new laws includes adding a lighted sign in the windshield.
While adding a lighted sign in the windshield of these drivers may not represent a large cost and may even make sense, I just hate to see the knee jerk reactions of our elected officials trying to gain favor among the voters every time something happens.
It is akin to outlawing our guns when some idiot uses them illegally.
Rather then continue to try to legislate decency or good sense once again we as a nation fail to address the real problem and deal with the lack of morals and decency among some of our population.
Lots of people go to work every day and live within the norms of society, those that don't need to be called out corrected and punished.
Its really that simple.

Gov. Mc Master was on TV news last night.. quote.. that is everyones daughter... What? Every daughter doesn't go to a bar or work in a bar. 0 -
Y'know- there actually WAS a reason that cab driver's got a license. And taxis are identifiable.
But of course, the folks in San Francisco (home of Uber) had a better idea.
Love to know where the money comes from, since Uber has reported losses in the BILLIONS of $$$ for several years.0 -
I think Uber/Lyft does a check on them but regardless even a license wouldn't prevent all incidents. String the bastards up with a one day open and shut trial. 11b6r wrote:Y'know- there actually WAS a reason that cab driver's got a license. And taxis are identifiable.

I agree. New laws won't stop people from doing foolish or unsafe things, especially if (and I don't know if this is the case) the victim has had too much to drink.
Perhaps not a new law, but the SJWs that run Uber / Lyft should make it a business requirement that their drivers have lit signs and display external identification. If the business makes the change, I'm ok with it. But I'm against the government making it a requirement.0 -
Many of our current laws are the product of knee jerk reactions and law makers who believe their jobs are to produce more and more laws. Particularly if they think it will gain them support come election time. Our government is riddled with such laws that continue to grow each passing year.
Some years back we had a Governor here in Minnesota that made the mainstream politicians and press crap their pants. Pretty much receiving the same type of treatment as Trump. His name was Jesse Ventura. Despite the open animosity he received from Republicans and Democrats as well as the press, he in my opinion was the most effective Governor I have seen in this state. I can name a number of his achievements that were a positive influence on the state.
The one achievement he failed to get passed into law was modification of the concept of making laws and dispensing of laws. His idea was to take every 4th year of legislative function and devote it to abolishing laws that were outdated, unnecessary, and a burden to the citizens of this state. Whatever the time one might feel appropriate, the concept was in my opinion extremely sound.
Thank You Jesse Ventura for caring about Minnesota and its citizens. Also Thank you for telling it like it is, including your nickname for the press - Jackals. It is a good fit. I am proud to have voted for you and sad that you chose to serve for only one term. As a nation we need to make sure that President Trump isn't trampled out of office by Jackals and power hungry socialists lead by the democratic party. I am not ready to give up on our Constitutional Republic , and I pray that many others will fight for America. This coming election will not be a cake walk. It will take all of us to fight off the failure of this nation and maintain personal freedoms. First order of business in my opinion is to stop dead the voting corruption the democrats are fighting so hard to strengthen. Make America Great again - get involved - do something - that means you ! :!:0
