Dog Funeral

Yes, we attended a funeral service for a dog yesterday, our first ever.

The dog was Rex, my PD's police dog, who developed an intestinal disease and had to be put down. His handler is a good friend, Officer Robert Pemberton. It was a nice funeral, and very well attended. Lots of cops, regular citizens, and dogs came to pay their respect.

Rex was a pretty good dog, a Malinois, hyperactive and anxious to work. He recovered a lot of dope, took down a lot of bad guys, and won a lot of police dog competitions.

    Rex served just as his handler did. R.I.P. little buddy. I can give you more than a few names to please check in with for me when you get across that bridge. Tell 'em I'll be along to see them when my time comes.

    To me, they are something Special, and Mans best friend.

    I get shook up worse with an animal than I do with some folks I have known.

    Losing a dog is like losing a family member.

    The funeral aspect is not rare at all for the French. They not only have funerals for dogs, but cemeteries, caskets and marble headstones.
