Always double check the medication that is prescribed to you

Recently I had some shoulder pain that I figured would go away in a few days but after about a week and a half it didn't feel any better so I called to make an appointment with my doctor but he was out of town. By the weekend it was worse and I said I got to have some relieve so I went to the local walk-in clinic and got a shot in the shoulder and a couple more shots in the rear-end for inflammation and pain. I was also prescribed some anti inflammatory medication called Diclofenac.

Well the good news is it got ride of the pain in my shoulder and it also got rid of the pain in my knees and other joints that I've been putting up with for a few years. I thought this is great! I had also asked that doctor if this medication was comparable with the other medications that I take and she said it was.

I got to thinking about the medicine last week and thought to myself this is to good to be true and decided to google it and found out the BAD news. It's not comparable with my blood thinner medication, Eliquis, and it can cause internal bleeding that can kill you when taken with Eliquis. That's what I get for going to a doc in a box.

I was at my regular doctor's office on Thursday this week for my biannual checkup and asked him about the Diclofenac and he said "you should NOT be taking any anti-inflammatory medication while on Eliquis" So he confirmed what I googled.

So now my joint pain is back and I hobble around like an old man again. :(

    Nice catch..that could have been bad. Before I had a real Dr. I use to go to the doc in the box. Had a cold and went and seen them. Took an x ray.. days later the nurse called and said I had a large growth on my left lung. Now that will get your attention. Went up to get the x ray and they wouldn't give it to me. I raised hell inside that place and told the wife I was fixing to make a drive thru with the place with the truck. Came home and the Dr. called and said come pick up the x ray. Went to the emergency room at the hospital and they seen nothing. Doc in the box got a call and I informed them they got to pay all the bills...in which they did. I wouldn't take an animal in there for them to exam. Dr.s who cannot work in real offices or hospitals.

    If you get all of your medications at the same pharmacy, usually the pharmacist will catch a problem with your prescriptions. Has happened to me.

    the doc took my wife off Diclofenac because it was causing her kidneys to fail. me. I am still taking it

    my wife and oldest son worked a pharmacy ( not the same time ) but same one the manager was a great fellow my wife and son both told me coutless times he ( Keith ) would catch a lot of such mistakes and call the doc(s) to get them changed some would have been real bad for the customer

    and just FYI.... acetaminophen is the only OTC pain med that does not act as a blood thinner.....so......do NOT take the other brands while on BT's...so i was told

    I've been told the same thing but I don't even take the acetaminophen because it don't really do much for relieving pain for me.
