C-17s, Low Level and slow

Was out at the summer place yesterday and watched a trio of C-17s playing at low level.

They looked to be around a mile apart, and may have been using terrain guidance. Tough to tell actual height, but I doubt they were 1000 feet above the tree line and appeared to be altering altitude as they followed a ridge line towards Lake Coeur d'Alene.

Big sons a bitches, yet maneuvered like a much smaller plane.

First time I have seen them in this area.

    remember last year coming out of the coffee bunch at the local elevator about 9:30 in morning and watching a newer style jet fighter paralleling the ATSF railroad tracks real low and slow going west ...appeared to me just above stall speed ????????? odd

    The C17 is an awesome airplane, must have been a sight to see! We're near a Navy base and all we ever see around here are the P3s. I miss the Air Force stuff!

    While I agree about the C-17, I personally have done many "Low and Slow," missions on the C-130. (Nap of the Earth.) Closest I came to eating it, while in - going out the back of a C-130 ramp down, doing just that.
    JATO's might have had a play in that. :D

    I like/enjoy seeing them come over. Longest Combat dedicated Aircraft ever. (If I'm wrong, feel free to tell me.) I know you will anyway.

    The first flight of the C-130 was in 1954.

    The first flight of the B-52 was in 1952.

    Ask and ye shall receive. ;)

    The C-47 entered service Dec 1941. It is still in service in Colombia, El Salvador and South Africa.

    I have been in a C130 and C141 in flight with the doors open / ramp down...

    I have been in the C5 galaxy on the ground - never in flight.

    I did 6 static line jumps from a restored gooney bird and 3 free fall pull the ripcord jumps from a Russian Bush plane outfitted for sky divers and STOL capable...

    I did one high altitude buddy jump from a restored flying boxcar - an interesting design and an odd looking aircraft...

    When I was young and stupid.

    And yes I owned corcorans at one time bought used at a pawnshop down the street from paraburger adjacent to Bragg...

    But that's a whole nother story.

    Also did bungee jumps from suspension bridges a half dozen times.
