stray cat

I went out to lock the gate and door on the chicken coupe a couple minutes ago , we have a lot of cats that always hang with any one walking out side , no exception as I went to close the door 4 of the regulars with me ,
I looked down at my feet like standing on top of it thought that cat is not one of ours .. Oh crap its not a cat :shock: :o well close a pole cat ( skunk ) being dark out I have learned they are not so quick to waste there liquid deterrent and it was not scared or startled .
I said a few words to it like it cared . I went back in the house for a welcome gift for him :mrgreen::mrgreen::o but it was gone on my return I am sure we will meet again as long as I see it first. I will remind my wife well maybe :o

    skunks love eggs. He aint gonna go far now that he found you. Congrats on your new cat.

    my heart goes out to you, I remember the story of your neighbor and smoky .
    I am sure your neighbor is devastated ,

    Be funny if it was a cat. Like on Pepe La Pew :D. Actually all the years I have yet to see a cat with a white stripe down it's back. I wonder is anyone's breeding black Persians with a white stripe down it's back?

    I had one release in a shed after a head shot but not on me several I have dispatched with in a couple feet of me head shots and nothing the one that sprayed the lights were on in the shed the other's at night very dark out , I started live trapping many years ago ( wife request I toss a blanket over the cage keep them in the dark and haul them down by the river they have never sprayed me ( yet )

    Our youngest son who lives in Everett, WA, just north of Seattle, has a chicken coupe and a few weeks ago a possum killed one of his chickens. A couple of nights later he caught the possum in the coupe again and beat the thing to death with a piece of pipe. I ask him how hard was it to kill the possum with a pipe. He said "that thing was tough" he said he didn't think he was ever going to kill it which created a lot of noise.

    With all the noise he found out that he's got a great neighbor. His closest neighbor heard all the commotion and came running over with his gun ready to help because he thought someone was attacking our son and his wife. His neighbor is an older guy like me in his late 60s or early 70s.

    It made me feel better knowing he's got somebody living close that's willing to put their life on the line when things go bad.

    "stray cat", skunk, possum, coon----all are "one and done" by the 22 next to the back door or the 22 in the UTV or the 22 in the barn or well you get the idea.

    I let the cats slide. The others not so much. The cats are someones pets. To me thats like hating stray dogs.
