Favorite .44 Caliber cartridge

What?s your favorite .44 Caliber cartridge? Mine?s the .44 Special. Easy on my wrists and accurate. And more than enough power for defense against anything that walks on two or four legs in Washington State.

  I like the 44 mag because I have a couple of them. I can down load to 44 special levels and shoot it all day or I can load it to max levels and makem-big-booms.

  While the .44 magnum nearly won my vote, I had to go with the .44 Special for the purpose I use a .44 handgun for.
  
  Self defense just doesn't require the magnum, and the Special is just a smooth and mild cartridge to shoot. Particularly in smaller frame guns. I enjoyed my Taurus Tracker in .44 Magnum, but I considered it much more friendly to shoot with the Special cartridge. And if more power was called for it would handle the 240 grain standard velocity Magnum. Mine was a very good revolver and I sold it out of necessity only.
  
  I now have a Interarm's Rossi Model 720 in .44 Special that is one of my favorite revolvers. It will take care of my needs.

  I've deer hunted with a Ruger 44 mag. Blackhawk for years. Only 44 I own. Not too bad of recoil as it rolls up and back vs. the S&W mod. 29 which is a straight backward "kick". Love that old meat gun. I reload a 300 gr. copper H.P. Hornady set out at the outer ring, win. primer with 25 grns. of #296 powder. DEADLY.

  I own a very nice Ruger .44mag Carbine. Scoped with a Simmons Pro Series diamand reticle shotgun scope. (Handles heavy recoil, fast aquisition. 100-150 yards max anyway.)
  
  I've been looking to add a .44mag revolver to the mix. I like handgun/rifle compatible cartridge combos.
  
  I got beat out of Sam06's offering.

  Gotten away from the 44 mag loads in favor of the 44 special. The noise and recoil factors are much nicer.

  44 Special in my 29-2 silhouette was great out to 100yd 8 inch gong. Also owned a 8 inch Anaconda that the Special was easy to shoot.
