Local HS kid last years starts for Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing this year. He is a 6'2" white boy and has a 44" vertical...

Here are a few of his dunks in HS as you google his name "Mac Mcclung" the internet is full of his dunks. He is doing the same at Georgetown as a Freshman.

His name is Jordan Kilganon from Canada. He only played high school basket ball. He has a 50" vertical jump and a 73" running jump and he's only 6'-1" tall.

The Highest Vertical Jump in NBA History?
    Wilt Chamberlain ? 48?
    Darrell Griffith ? 48?
    Michael Jordan ? 46? ...
    Zach LaVine ? 46? ...
    Jason Richardson ? 46?
    James White ? 46?
    Spud Webb ? 46? ...
    Shannon Brown ? 44.5?

I put several dunks down in HS and could dunk it about anyway I wanted. I know one thing there is a lot of difference in dunking in an actual game than setting them up as you like with no defense for show.

Jim Thorp the Indian American or Native American athlete could certainly run and jump. However, when your 7 feet tall like some of the dudes playing basketball today. Do you really need to jump much? Regardless off your diversity.

I believe jumping in basketball is meant to help accelerate the ball while the wrist and fingers guide it and get it spinning.
so I think jumping is still needed in basketball.
