No, not playing horse shoes. There was a big locust tree laying on a 45 deg. angle at the top of my driveway. This thing was about 20 inches at the base.It was hung in the crotch of a piss elm and would eventually fall across my driveway, possibly taking out three mailboxes.
I?ve studied it for a long time, trying to figure how to get it down safely. I even solicited advice from some friends.
So today I had a plan. Notch the elm and back cut it so the locust and elm fell together. I knew there was some pressure when a third of the way into the elm it started to pinch my saw.
I was counting on at least a pick up load of fire wood but the locust was about half punky in the middle.
Oh, well. At least I didn?t get hurt. But I?m spent.
I think it?s beer:30.

    Had the same scenario but with a 40" old white oak. All hollowed out. Called my buddy landscaper friend. A man has to know his limits :o

    I had a tree that was leaning near our driveway when we lived in Jasper, TN back in the 90s. The weather report called for snow one night so I got to thinking about it and decided to move one of my cars to a spot less likely to get hit if the tree was to fall from the extra weight of the snow. Bad idea! If I had left the car where it was originally it would not have been hit. Just my luck. :roll:

    It was a Ford Escort that I used to drive to work. I only had collision insurance on it. I donated it to the fire department in Stevenson, AL. They were going to use it in some kind of training class.
