I know a guy that bought a National some 40 or 50 years ago. As soon as he got it and he put it in a presentation box and has never taken it out except to re-oil it once a year, otherwise it just hangs on his wall. Maybe that's what the previous owner did with this one

Mike, I'd like to see your opinion on it.
I don't know what the reason is for the two tone slide, but the only 1911's I've seen it on, were Argy Navy models, and they did have a high gloss blue.

The two tone area is because they used to harden the steel and it caused the color to be two different colors.

Kasey and Perry Shooter are beyond reproach and conduct their affairs with honesty and integrity - both are experts in their fields and giants in firearms lore

The fact that either one respects me or solicits my opinion on occasion or tolerate my contributions is a badge of honor

Anything is possible- I even met an honest politician one time. But I have seen pristine older firearms. I picked up a K-38 Target Masterpiece that was 50 years old, unturned, still wrapped in the oil paper in the box. No reason that LOVELY .45 could not be in that extraordinary condition.

I'm not an expert- hell, I'm not even a talented amateur- but everything that would tell me it is a refinish is NOT there. That is one fantastic gun.

That 2 tone look is CORRECT for a war time contract 1911. Many had that "line".
I have held parkerized ones that had a different tone in the exact same spot.
