Do you have a smart phone?
Curious how many have or don't have a "smart phone" :?:
I neither have one nor want one but society is almost FORCING one to have one these days.

I bought one after my bypass operation. I have mixed emotions about it. Some days it's a pain in the ass, other days I don't see how I got along without it. Kind of like wimmins. You can't live with them, and you can't live without them.

No. I have a flip phone on a $15/month plan that I keep in my car for emergencies.
I can foresee the day when a smart phone will be just about required, because we won't be able to do anything unless we have one. Our ID, licenses, passports, credit cards, reservations, and all our documents will be stored ONLY on phones. We'll have to wave our phone in front of some scanner to do ANYthing including voting.
Scary? You bet your little pink butt it is.0 -
Nope, not I
I did just buy a "GreatCall" 'smarter' flip phone because of my medical condition.
It has a "5star" button that calls the operator if I have a medical or dangerous condition.
She then turns on the camera, calls me, and asks what she can do for me. If I can't answer, she turns on GPS and calls 2 different people on my emg. list. she can direct emt's to me if needed.
The whole deal with 300 mins of text, 600 mins of talk and the "5star" service costs
$44 a month.0 -
I don?t own a computer anymore. I have a personal Android smart phone, and a work iPhone.
They can do anything my old computers could do, and more.0 -
Smart phone - Isn't that an oxymoron. Texting and using phone while driving - STUPID. Car/pedestrian accidents up because one or the other is on the phone - STUPID. Relying on an electronic gadget to keep all your information safe - STUPID. Being totally addicted to what is basically a non essential toy for most -STUPID. I guess you can call me a phone luddite
Just my 2 cents. Bob0 -
I just recently purchased a "newer" model of an iPhone. My older one (model 5C) was dropping a lot of calls. I don't really use the features of a smartphone except to talk. 0 -
Desk top, laptop, Samsung S9. I can monitor the security cameras when away from the house.
Also my smart phone is going to be able to control my new quad copter drone.
Life is good.0 -
Yep, I have one; pretty much invaluable for security monitoring while traveling as well as communicating with family and friends, etc!
I'll keep my current iPhone 6 until they no longer update the iOS, then I'll upgrade!

Yep... but then I don't own computers or laptops or notepads or electronic toilet paper capable of getting on the Internet like you guys do

No.
Bought a new"er" car.
My son said I would have to get a smart phone to go with the car.
So far the car drives just fine without a smart phone.0 -
One month in on my first smartphone. It does have some advantages. 0 -
I hate Iphones.
I am back in the Dark Ages. I have a flip phone.
The TA Truck Stop in Laredo has a nice picnic area out front, tables with chairs and benches.
When I started going there, 8 years ago, you would see five or six drivers sitting there, having lunch and having a conversation.
Today, there are six drivers sitting there, and each one is texting on an Iphone.
I go into a restaurant, two couples are at a table. None of the four people is talking to their table partners. They are all texting on their Iphones.
I had a party last year, one of my buddies from Georgia came up and it is a 6 hour drive for Tony. Had several friends up.
I have been friends with Tony since we both got hired as paramedics on the same day in 1980. I would be having a conversation with Tony and suddenly, he would pull out his Iphone and he would spend the next 3 minutes, texting on his Iphone. He didn't say "excuse me" he would just turn to his Iphone and begin texting. In two days, Tony did this about 30 times.
Tony has lived in Georgia his whole life. All his friends are down there. So, he drove 6 hours to come to my party in North Carolina, but while at my party he could not hold a conversation with me, he was having a text conversation with his friends in Georgia.
I wonder who Tony sends text messages to, when he is in a room with his friends in Georgia?
I had a party 8 years ago, and Tony came up for a couple of days. Tony and I sat around drinking beer and having conversations for hours at that party. Tony didn't have an Iphone, they were new then he hadn't gotten one yet.
Next party, Tony won't get invited, it is so rude to pull out your Iphone and just start texting, while in the middle of a conversation with someone else. Because of Iphones, people are not engaged in the reality of the people they are with, in the living room, or in the restaurant. People instead live in the virtual reality of the Iphone.
Iphones are terribly destructive to society. I wish they had never been invented.

could you repost that in larger fonts.....you hit it out of the ballpark!!0 -
In the summer of 2016 I finally threw out my old flip phone and took the dive. I neither love nor hate smartphones, and don't have nearly the interaction with one that most folks do. It comes in handy for two step security codes for my financial accounts,....I use the calendar to keep track of my appointments, as well as the memo pad for notes. Other than that it's a large flat phone that I only use when needed.
I still do virtually ALL of my internet 'stuff' on a desktop, or laptop.0 -

T-Mobile prepaid plan costs $3.00 per month and includes 20 minutes. Charge account for $40 when I leave for overseas. Return and phone instantly available.
Use phone for watching Youtube and Whatsapp. Calls overseas are free. Whatsapp has talk,text,photos/video call etc. Did I mention free?
Just received this photo via whatsapp of one of my new golden/bearded silkies, Nice beard. Might get top bucks when sold.

I have no problem with smart phones. I have one and consider it a tool like my flashlight or knife or gun.
When used for a good purpose it's a good thing! I travel alot and Google maps has saved me a lot of time and money. I have used it to help make emergency road side repairs on a vehicle before.
I can see how its misuse can be downright deadly though (i.e. texting and driving)
Hmmm, sounds like another inanimate object I know of... :?:0 -
I have one but it is an older iphone5. I refuse to get a new one. This one was even a refurb when my older one died. I don't care about techy stuff. I uses it to get work emails while I am not in the office. I don't own a laptop or have a PC at home. 0
