RALEIGH
There?s a new push to allow North Carolina teachers to carry guns in school that some state lawmakers think has a chance of being approved this year.
The School Security Act of 2019, filed Wednesday, would boost the salaries of teachers who underwent specialized police training to carry firearms on campus. The same bill was filed last year and died in committee, but Sen. Jerry Tillman, one of the new sponsors of Senate Bill 192, said that the climate has changed to give the legislation more support this year.
but the LAST paragraph shows the mentality of the left...
But Jewell said the answer is more support staff, not more guns.
?We need to be armed with support specialists ? counselors, nurses, school psychologists ? all of those trained professionals who meet the social-emotional health needs of our students,? he said.
i guess just let someone come in and shoot the place up as long as we have counselors and shrinks for afterwards ?

I can hear the liberals screaming and lawsuits flying about it
a friend and co-worker his daughter was chosen to be one of the " trained and have access" to the firearm's at the school she teaches at this was about 5 years ago ( at a grade school I went to back in the 60"s )
she trained with the sheriff department who came up with and did the training and got the program going , I think it was 6 or 8 weeks and have to refresher classes and from her dad she has been shooting for many years and out shoots most of the fellows
she has said she would have no trouble using a firearm to protect the kids or her self .
I hope she never does but I would bet she would like a pay increase who would not0 -
While I do agree that teacher should be able to carry oh, I also believe that there needs to be psychiatrist to evaluate the mental mentality school kids. If we had less kids going to school that have mental illness and putting them in an institution where they belong, they would be less school shootings. But we know that will never happen with the in charge. they like to have nuts running on the streets, who else will vote them into office.
But I do agree that we do have to have armed protection in schools, there are always those few nut cases that slip through the cracks, or have you already graduated and are out on the streets that can pose a potential problems. And what better way to have armed protection in our schools that to have properly trained armed teachers instead of hiring full-time armed security0 -

I think she should get an increase in pay, she is taking on more responsibilities, not to mention potentially putting herself In Harm's Way instead of cowering behind her desk. so why not get compensated for it.0 -
Whether or not they get incentive pay, I'm glad that they may have the opportunity to carry. 0 -
Meh. I spent a lot of time in the past year, working with school officials to make their schools safe from bad people.
No one wants to hear that their kids are far more likely to be killed while riding in a car or bus to & from school. Or, that 3,000-4,000 children will die in drowning accidents every year. We have to stop letting our emotions go unchecked; see where the real dangers are, & act accordingly.

Agree with what you are saying, my thoughts , schools are too big, too many students in one 'campus". When I was a kid each township in the county had it's own school. The teachers personally knew each kid, knew their parents, knew their homelife.
The teachers/principals could identify anyone the had serious issues, from being extremely poor (not having anything to eat) to students that were bullys (and dealt with accordingly).
That's why we could bring Dad's rifle to school to refinish the stock, go hunting after school or whatever. No problems with some kid that grew up with any kind of home guidance wanting to shoot up the school. A community system was in place to recognize potential threats.
Now it's just a factory system --get them, get them out .
My 2 cents.0 -
I saw this on the news today. However, one thing that's not mentioned in this thread is that the teachers are also being given LE training and will have some sort of arrest authority.
That could be good or bad, depending on how you think...0
