Sorry, I don't get it at all.
IF the blocks are transparent, and some are black, then looking down on the top view,
you would have to see a black block no matter where in the whole cube it was placed.

That is correct. And this is exactly how you are to figure out where the blocks are and what patterns make sense based on where they are, or could be.

So you are saying the black blocks are NOT black on all sides, Just the one side??
If all sides are black, then top view is impossible.

No. The black blocks are black on all sides. There are two kinds of blocks making up a 5x5x5 cube: clear ones and black ones. From the front, you can see through any clear ones and not see through any black ones. Same from the side and the top.

Then I still maintain that the top view is impossible. Transparent blocks in the top view would mean you see all the way to the bottom. A black cube would block that row no matter where placed.

That is how I did it I just imagined what it would look like.............I guess I got lucky but I am a very visual person. The single kind of sold it for me.

    Black blocks matter!

Because the idea is to fill in the top view with one of the possible answers to see if it works.
