up and down ...picture perfect....NOW maybe TRUMP will NOT have to COLLUDE with uber Russia to get to and from the space station...something overpaid nasa can't do ????????????????????????????

    Space X has been impressive. They should have a bright future in space exploration - send me to Mars, I am ready to go home.

    I got to witness a launch from cocoa beach last summer. Impressive. Dam thing took off and then returned to the pad. Amazing.

    There was a time when all the natives plugged their ears and I was looking around like what? And then boom the reentry must be supersonic because BOOM. And all the locals laugh 😆

    Tourists all thought a bomb went off

    I think its pretty cool...although space x's current most used rocket engine is of a Russian design I think?..(in all fairness the Russian defected from stalin...so that makes him pretty American in my book).
    Anyway, I like the idea of American built, owned, operated rockets with American astronauts flying on them again.

    Wrong company, kid. SpaceX engines were designed and are manufactured in-house.

    It's United Launch Alliance that uses Russian engines, specifically the RD-180 in the ULA Atlas V rocket. That's the booster that Boeing will use to fly their crew capsule (SpaceX's competition) so i a way we'll still be paying Russia to launch astronauts, at least partially.

    Glad to see it finally coming to the US. Always thought that was crazy to pay the Russians to take our Americans into space. I'll bet every time our guys blasted off, it was a "white knuckle" ride, knowing the Russian tech support and level of manufacturing.

    Rocky- I can say with extreme certainty Space X depending on the platform buys from either Aerojet-Rocketdyne or ATK (now owned by Northrop Grumman),
    They provide a spec and either AJ or ATK leads the design, manufacturing, and test. Then Space-X takes delivery.

    I am ready to go. Alternate plan : send all the socialist democrats to some other planet like Pluto (I know, but I am calling it a planet) and have peace here.

    I still think you have the wrong company in mind, warbirds. For one thing, ATK only makes solids, and SpaceX has never used a solid propellant rocket. But ULA and Orbital have and do.

    Quote from their website: "The Merlin engine that powers the first stage of Falcon 9 is developed and manufactured in-house by SpaceX."

    Rocky- I am a propusion engineer and this is what I do.

    Orbital was acquired by ATK, ATK was then acquired by Northrop Grumman and that group technically became Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems.

    I still believe it's ULA that you describe as farming out their engine work, not SpaceX, based on the direct claim from SpaceX I quoted above.

    This is a small community. They aren?t sitting around casting propellant at anything larger than a proof of concept scale.

    For some reason- they have a whopping 1 propulsion engineer job open, which happens to be a labor grade 1 (aka college new hire).
