I toss them into the burn barrel or recycle bin and go get a new one. It is the American way.

I know oven cleaner does wonders for cookie sheets. I don't know if that would work or not??? If you spray it be careful of the fumes......oven cleaner will make you feel like you need to call 911 if you get a little whiff of it.

I use oven cleaner on the bottoms of my old pans. Maybe it would work.

In a more serious manner I have cleaned aluminum pans with a air powered sanding disk with great success. I have a couple of very heavy aluminum pans that were in bad shape with one having burned on food residue (a story for a different time). I used a air grinder with increasing grits on the pan and it turned out as good as new. The 3M flex disks, ones used for automotive applications did the trick. They are basically Scotch Brite pads with a quick change base that really can fix your pans back to like new. Do you have a die grinder?

Every year Thanksgiving and Christmas we fry a turkey in a huge AL pot and every year a thick brown & black residue remains
on the bottom. I pour in 1 full cup of powder laundry detergent and add enough water to cover it and keep wet. Let sit overnight and
hose it out. Looks like new.

I hear a #12 lb ax works great if you scrape it correctly !!!

Make a thin paste by mixing potassium hydrogen tartrate and dilute acetic acid. Let it soak a while, rinse off with water.

If you can't find those, try cream of tartar powder mixed with white vinegar.

Me? I wouldn't!!! Aluminum being so soft and pourus I would use nothing other than soap and water, and thorough rinse. Anything that goes on aluminum, goes into aluminum. And will leach back out. No thanks, toss it and buy something new. JMHO YMMV
