Civil War Vets
I remember when there were veterans still alive, though I never met any, and I remember markers on the Confederate Veterans in The Wye Mountain cemetery.

Lots of great pictures of the veterans at the below link. I especially like the third picture from left to right where old Confederate soldiers are parading in Little Rock at their reunion in 1915.

An interesting aside is the story of civil war brides and the government administrative agency that existed into the late 1990's to take care of their pension and medical needs and provide full VA benefits to them
I am talking about 12 or 13 year old gals who married civil war vets who were like 104 years old or were 12 or 13 year old lads the year the war ended
I was born in 1971 and while statistically there were some civil war vets still alive it's pretty unlikely - when did the last few civil war vets die???
They would have been 110+ years old at least when I was born

when I was younger I heard similar a lot of young girls married the old vets who wee very old at the time to get the government checks well into the 1950"s maybe later . 0 -

There's one person left who receives a Civil War pension.
Her father was a Civil war veteran :

Back when I had a paper route in the late 50's early 60's, there was a man on my route that was a civil war vet. He wasn't a very friendly guy, but he always put his $.62 in a bowl on collection day for me. He died in 1962 if I remember right. 0 -

Rack ops many thanks - my memory since the brain tumor is not what it once was
That's some insane stuff right there...
All respect and support to those who served but uncle Sam got boned on this one
You cannot make stuff like that up - it's improbable to the nth degree

The last Confederate Civil War vet was from Houston Texas, and passed away in the early 60's
The last Union Civil War vet was from Antwerp NY, and passed away in the late 50's.
So based on this the South won...
Oddly, I was born in Houston, and now live in Antwerp NY...
