First one I ran across was probably in the mid 90's? Ugly as sin. Though it was a joke. Figured it would be gone, within a year. Little did I think, they would still be in business in 2019. And turn into a cult object. That folks would be standing in line, to get their hands on, (10mm Carbine). Shows you how much I know.
The one in the photo, Colt 45 & hater holster. Got to be a photoshop. Colt 45 is a Malt liquor, favored by certain sectors of the community. Along with the photo of Billy Dee. It appears to be a undeserved knock on the High Point. I know a lot of folks make fun of High Points, and the people who buy them. But they work, that all that matters.0 -

HiPoints are cheap and ugly, but unlike budget guns such as Taurus, they work. Over the years, I have seen
close to a hundred at various pistol ranges and they always go bang when you pill the trigger. Accuracy
is compatible to Smiths and SIGs.0 -

Sorry Chief, every Taurus I own, goes "Bang" every time the trigger is pulled.

In the gunshop days we loaded a ton of 9mm ammo on a progressive automated star machine and used a pair of beat up high points as test mules
They always worked and always went band and always cycled - even when filthy and fouled
They are ugly and clunky and anti-ergonomic and badly balanced and poorly finished but they are indestructible and reliable and cheap
Billy dee Williams did Max and relax with his colt .45 (in the new 45 ounce bottle) and represented the brand through commercial ad campaigns and as a spokesperson during his Star Wars days - I remember the TV ads well

It's not a photoshop, as I though. The watermark on the photo, is from a outfit in Texas, "Autonomous Armory". Who specialize on Cercoating guns. If the Hi-Point, is a sample of their work? They are quite talented.
I still think it was a misguided knock on Hi Point. Stereotyping certain folks, who they believe would be buying and carrying Hi Points.0 -

As a long time instructor & range safety officer (35+ years), and the quantity of experience seeing them shot, shooting them myself, and even owning several, the short answer is NO!
High Point pistols are manufactured from zinc alloy (think ?pot metal?), very simple, fixed barrel design, more difficult/more involved to field strip (dry fire & drive a small pin out with punch), and blowback operated. This is some of the reasons they can manufacture & sell them so inexpensively. Blowback operation means the slide is not locked closed in any way as compared to the most commonly used recoil operated design of almost all other centerfire pistol designs/platforms, and only the sheer slide weight & strength of the recoil spring is what controls the slide movement/cycling momentum overcoming static inertia), exactly like all 22 LR rimfire semi-auto pistols, and most 22 LR rimfire semi-auto rifles are, and is the reason of the High Points being very bulky. Recoil operated pistols feature the slide & barrel being locked together for the 1st 1/8? to 1/4? of travel, then the barrel drops down, disengaging from the slide, the slide continues full rearward travel, extracting & ejecting the empty case, then back forward, stripping a cartridge from the mag on the way."

Pot metal????
I had no troubles using potmetal Holley carburetors to go 182 mph on my dragster.
In fact, Holley just introduced all aluminum versions a few years ago because it got cheaper than the old zinc castings.
"Pot metal" used properly is not a bad thing.0 -
