2014 Ford F-150 XLT EXT Cab LB 3.5L
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually considering buying a Ford truck. I have had Chevy's, as well as experience with Dodge and Jeep vehicles, but don't know details on these. I want it to pull the camper we are looking at getting this or next year and get me to work and back. The camper were looking at is a 24' weighing just over 5,000 lbs. We would put all the weekend or trip miles on the wife's little SUV.
Here is the details on the truck I'm looking at.....It is a 2014 Ford F-150.....140,000 miles, 3.5L EcoBoost, 3.73 gears, 6 speed automatic, 4x4, Extended Cab, Long Box, Trailer/towing package, 36 gallon fuel tank, white, backup camera, etc.
Opinions on this year? Concerns I should look for? Too many miles or okay for my uses(this will be my main vehicle if I get it)? Anything else?

I have it's big brother F250 with a 6.2 Your F150 should do the job , however I would never purchase a used vehicle with miles like that. My 2014 has just a tad over 24K. However a 8' long bed pickup is far and few between. Do get it checked out before purchase if you decide to buy. 0 -
I don't have one but I have a friend who is a used car dealer and he speaks very highly of the 150 Eco Boost especially its towing capacity. 0 -
Don?t know much about tow vehicles except they are like garages in that you should always buy more than you think you will need. When you get all the crap loaded that camper will probably weigh more than you think. As far as the manufacturer is concerned all vehicles have problems sooner or later so buy something that you think you will love, or at least like a lot.

Agree with mileage comment. Unless you see copious maintenance info data on scheduled changes and if mileage was all highway sounds risky for drivetrain. 0 -
Make sure that the truck has a properly set up trailer brake controller and that your trailer brakes are functioning correctly. I see a lot of rigs out there with a 'tow' package installed, which is fine and dandy, but if you can't properly slow down what you're towing it can be an issue. 0 -

That Truck should have a built in trailer brake with the tow package. They work cool you can see the gain on the dash setup how much braking the trailer has.0 -

"Should have", yep, but I've seen a lot of rigs with a tow package that didn't have a 'stop what you're towing' package!0 -
I bought a 2015 F-150 with the tow package, and the brake controller does not come with it, it's an expensive option. Needs to be dealer installed, then they need to set it up with their computer.
Mine has the smaller EcoBoost, and even going up hills it will downshift into 5th gear. Pulling 5000 lbs it may never get out of 5th. But like was said earlier, that's a lot of miles on it.0 -
I know that 12 and 13s had problems with the intercooler freezing up. FIL had a 15 eco and it was trouble free. "Upgraded" to a 2018 5.0 10 speed auto and is disappointed. 0 -
Go with the F-250 for towing. Better braking capability. 0 -
I would never buy a truck with a 3.5 engine in it ...................... it's a truck for gosh sake. 0 -
My buddy has an older one, i believe he bought it new and it is the 1st year of the eco-boost engine. Im thinking he has 150,000 + miles on it. He drags this big old toy hauler around with his racing motorcycles inside of the toy hauler.
Fully loaded he gets 6-8mpg and I expect he is way over weight legally- but the truck has been solid. His truck is definitely the Eco-boost V6.0 -

Always set the controller so the trailer brakes come on first.0 -
I have a 2013 f-150 with the 3.5 ecoboost has a turbo. 365 horsepower @ 5500rpm. 420lb-ft of torque @ 2500rpm.
Mine has the heavier axles,
I havent pulled anything with it yet but wouldnt be afraid too, I get 18 mpg combined
I have an 18 boat i'm refurbishing or getting a newer one I wouldnt hesitate to pull it anywhere
On the freeway if I keep my sensors clean, 3 of them, I can get early 20's mileage

What kind of sensors and how do you clean them?? I rented a turbo ford for a few days and was impressed with the power. I wonder if they will hold up to high millage, over a couple hundred thousand. The turbos would worry me. 0 -
