New Book WWII

Just started it today titled ?Unbroken? about a dude got shot down in the Pacific in 1943 and floated around on a raft for a couple of months before being captured by the Japanese. He was from Torrance, California and grew up kinda wild. He ran away from home nekid when he was two, started smoking cigarette butts when he was five and drinking when he was eight. He was weak from pneumonia and was bullied at school but that changed at around 14 when his Dad taught him to box and he got strong and became an Olympic miler. This is looking like a pretty good read. :mrgreen:

    you do know the movie has been made and shone already, right? Louie Zampherini or something like that? B-24 bombadier

    No I didn?t know but it doesn?t matter cause I always prefer books to movies.

    the movie really brings out the indominable spirit of Mr Zampherini as a POW in a really vicious camp. often hard to watch the atrocities commited by the Japanese. air battle scenes pretty good overal for CGI. i give 4.5 stars out of 5

    One of the best movies I have watched in a long time. Yes, often difficult to watch. Agree, 4.5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommend.

    I know the movie has been discussed here a couple times. Once by myself about a month or so ago, when I first watched the movie. I read quite a bit about the filming/casting of this movie, quite a while back. The main character of the Head Japanese Camp Commander was very hesitant to take the role - felt he would be hated and typecast like Bruce Dern in The Cowboys, when he killed John Wayne. A very soft spoken intelligent person. (Just like his persona in the movie without the ruthlessness.)

    I read the book soon after it was released. It is amazing how cruel the Japs were to prisoners. The worst of the worst sadist guards that actually beat people largely went unpunished after the war.
