I'm not really a "prepper", but...

Rack Ops
I took advantage of an opportunity to buy some #10 Cans of Mountain house for about $20 a can. Bought enough to feed my family for a couple of weeks if it ever came down to it.

I try to keep a stocked pantry as part of my family's general living plan, but like most I only have a few days worth, and less if we're talking about things that are shelf stable.

It's not much, and if everything really did go to hell, it wouldn't be near enough...but, still, I don't think squirreling a little back for a rainy day is a bad thing, and maybe an ounce of prevention will prevent a pound of cure.

    That's a fairly good deal on 10# cans. Where did you get them? Deal still available?

    Walmart.com.

    You have to buy the cans in 6 packs. Chicken & Rice was about $115 for the 6 pack.

    Spaghetti was about $125 for the pack.

    Sucks you can not mix and match, but have to buy 6 of the same.

    Chicken and Rice, one of the best ones offered, in my humble opinion.

    If I had to eat chicken and rice, I?d just as soon the Lord took me with the first wave.
    My wife is somewhat of a prepper. She has one corner of our basement stocked.

    Yes.

    You mix about one cup Chicken and Rice, with about one cup of Water.

    Boil the water. Stir the boiling water in to the Chicken and Rice. (Or other Entree'.) Allow to sit for a few minutes.

    Enjoy.


    Tabasco sauce, makes everything Mo Betta.

    So, I just went and looked on the website again.

    Single cans of Chicken and Rice are now on sale for $15 a can.

    I'm actually considering making an additional purchase, not for prepping, but for my backpacking kit.

    I have a dozen of those number 10 cans.
    And I also have 25 or 30, five gallon buckets of corn, beans, oats etc. Forty two pounds per bucket.

    Just went to the local grocery store and got 2 cases of canned salmon, 48 cans, and 2 cases of corned beef. Also bought a one gallon jug of olive oil. These 5 gallon buckets of beans will keep for 25 years. But oil only is good for a year and a half or so.

    Also, we have access to water from the spring, and a two year stockpile of firewood, and a full propane tank.

    So, I hope the S doesn't hit the F, but if it does, Let The Games Begin!
    It won't be fun but it will be interesting.

    First question, what the heck is mountain house?

    Prepper?

    I prep by canning fruits and veggies from my garden and grove.

    Then I kill fury little animals, and can some of them.

    Then I feed it to my family year round,

    And then do it again.

    My mileage definitely varies from store bought prepping supplies.

    Not a bad idea to have some shelf stable for available for minor emergencies. When we lived in FL, each year we would put together a plastic container of food at the start of hurricane season. When season was over we would donate to the local food bank.
