22 revolver

Tax time, birthday money, bonus at work, the stars have aligned to allow a small amount of money to be spent on an actual firearm.

Don't reload, prefer to shoot 22 for the economics, and I don't have a revolver in my small collection.

"full size" (no NAA minis... tempting though they are), thinking 5-8" barrel, prefer adjustable or replaceable rear, no need for scope/dot/rail/doodad attachment.

Budget is $300 plus shipping, transfers etc and so forth - yes, I realize this removes some great possibilities (would love to try a S&W 617 but ...)

Suggestions as to what to be looking for on the auction side and the next big show I go to?

    Look for a Taurus 96, NOT 94. The early ones were nice pistols. I have a Smith K22 and a Taurus 96 and I shoot the Taurus a lot more. Do not, and I mean DO NOT waste money in a 94.

    Save up for an older S&W K-17or K-22, Try to find one made in the 50's or 60's, there is no better 22 revolver IMO.

    H&R made solid pistols and parts are generally available. If you want one with a swing out cylinder for less than 300 you may have to consider a Taurus or a Rossi. I don't generally advocate for those brands but I have had some Rossi revolvers that ran fine.

    I am by no means any kind of an expert on 22 revolvers but I have really enjoyed my Hi Standard Double 9! I like the cowboy look and feel of this little hand gun! 9 shots as fast as you want to take them and I prefer slow utilizing the action to its fullest. Click CLICK bang! :D

    There are soo many choices and so little time...

    Love my old colt trooper III 6" paid $200 in 1978 but have no idea what they go for today. Its a great gun!

    Well, that shop in South Carolina named after the state's nickname sent me an email with specials in it.

    Bad news is no self control.

    Good news is I have another 20 p-mags and 840 rounds of 62grn 5.56 on stripper clips in bound. Which is good because I don't have enough of either.

    i would reccomend a ruger or such with adjustable sights ( eyes are diff)...preferably a steel gun over alloy......have reset barrels on econo revolvers to close up cylinder gap and has helped them but not everyone is set up to do that.....maybe even consider a two cylinder 22lr/mag for variety of purpose........

    Another vote for Ruger Single Six. The reloading time and single action contribute to both marksmanship and ammo conservation.

    I'd save up to get the S&W 617. Or use the $300 and a trade to get it.
