Remington 58 info

Found a 58 SKEET. Double beads. 95 % blueing and VERY nice wood. Has SC on bottom of frame ahead of loading gate. Butt plate been changed I think it a Pachmahr. It has gold highlight in scrolling in reciever and highlighted on grip cap. Original??? Owner thinks so. I cant find it anywhere on a 58. Gold but much more elaborate engraving. Any one seen this or have any info. Gun has had very little use and he asking 5 hunde. Whats everyones thoughts. Worth it or he over priced by 100.. Thanx

  I don't see an 'SC' on the list. I do know what a model 11F premier grade looks like with gold inlays, and it was way more than a $500 shotgun.

  If that truly is a higher graded 58 it's worth far more than the asking.
  From your description it could possibly be a D or F grade, if indeed factory original.
  I'd ask the owner to hold it until verified. I don't know how tight lipped Remington's historians are, but a call with the serial number might at least verify grade.

  If it would have looked like that I d have gladly paid asking price. it s typical 58 scrolling with gold in it and very nice wood. Thanx for info.

  When the 58 was around it was common for people to fill in the engraving with an epoxy based gold filler. You could get these filler kits in various colors, ( gold, rose gold, silver). I had a Winchester trap gun from that era that had this treatment done. Preferred original look and had a devil of a time removing the stuff. Solvent and brass brush did it but took a while. So to me the gun would be overpriced. $300 in the condition described - $400 with original butt plate and no gold.
