have had this hat brass since forever, pretty sure it is infantry but any one have a clue what unit etc. ?
all the images i find on line have the number above and a single letter below

  I am stumped as well.
  
  The crossed rifles indicate Infantry as you said and those came out Post Civil War.
  
  Usually the Brigade, Regiment numbers are on top with a single Company letter below. The "WC" definitely has me baffled.

  The Rifles look like Lee Enfields.
