Tales from the homestead - random thoughts
The girls presented me with a fait acompli and we now have a large rabbit in the house
I just took them all outside into the back yard and porch before closing things up for the night and putting them to bed in their crates and habitats
My parents rescue Welsh cardigan corgis is visiting and spending the night
Gave the dog and the ferret the last of the pineapple marinated lesser kudu jerky so I have to hit up my safari guy for some more supplies of some exotic animal
Have laundry going and several research guns out - baking cookies
The girls had me grow out my hair and my beard - I was looking like a war civil degueritype photo of a man with his war beard so I trimmed and shaped the facial hair and tied the hair back with an elastic band - mint shampoo and facial dermal scrub wash and some good lotion...
Since letting it grow out the white patches in my hair have diminished and the patches were some had fallen out filled back in - the hair is no longer dry or brittle - it's dark and shiny with some pure white still present but only a little
The beard had been patchy and scruffy and course and discolored and brittle so I shaved it all off and started over - now there is much more dark red than brown or black - and it filled in okay and is also no longer brittle or dull
It's now sculpted and fresh cut and shaped - took all the hair off the neck and throat
Both girls cried when seeing me - so did my mom - tomorrow I have to spend a few hours at the cancer care center with the oncologist - get labs and blood work and an ultrasound - we will see what the nurses think about my appearance
And I plan on spending a few hours with the kids on the pediatric oncology ward - six girls 12 to 16 and twin boys of 10 - I am certain that they will weigh in on my new look
One girl has a PET scan and I may sit with her through it
Have to review the scans of my abnormal mass - brain tumor and see what they think - has it shrunk and calcified or has it gone invasive and malignant
I intend to once again refuse to have the dosage - period - or frequency of my pain meds upped - they might want to try a new one and have asked me to sign up for an investigational study on it
I think they are drawing and filling 4 red tops and 2 green tops and 1 yellow top for labs
They want me to sign off on being disabled and start the SSI paperwork
Mackenzie spends a lot of time with coastie Amy and she seems set on joining the coast guard to do research with the polar-tec folks who winter over while doing science - with her grades and course curriculum she would fit in well
She wants to do one or two tours than go into the reserves or guard and than get a masters and teach
That's the plan she presented to us

Mike- you just triggered a nice flashback- our baby girl had a pet rabbit- Phred. Daughter had a harness and leash for Phred. Noticed her out in the front one day with Phred on her leash, asked what she was doing- said just taking Phred for a hop. And away they go down the street- bunny happily hopping alongside kid. 0 -

Not sure how Ferret tastes. (High temp Wok/veggies?) [YOSH?]
Duck is too dark/greasy for my taste.(Although I do like Peking Duck.)

I attempted, I repeat attempted to clean a possum one time with the intent of eating it. I got so far as splitting the hide down the belly and around the neck, and getting the hide pulled down to the hind end. At that point it was all I could do not to throw up and I threw it in the trash. I was gagging the entire time I was skinning that critter.
I will never shoot a possum with the thought of eating it again[xx(]0 -

The girls have already bought a bunny harness and leash - not fat but it's a big rabbit
84bravo is still upset cause I said that if we were attacked by Asian zombie hordes and he bought the farm I was dumping out his ruck and splitting up his gear - mole harness - anything of value
Including the jar of peanut butter so his buddy would come with...

The corgi is a rescued retired breeder / bitch from big ears kennel - our second from them - my brother has one and my uncle did when he passed
