FOID Cards

I am used to the way individual pistol permits are issued in MI with fingerprinting. Thankfully, I obtained a carry permit that allows me to buy a pistol without having to visit my local PD each time.


What are the requirements to be met before a IL FOID card is issued. I am trying to understand how a FOID card was issued to the convicted felon in the Aurora IL shootings. If you don't want to type it out a link will be fine.

    The Illinois State Police are in charge of the FOID program. There is a specific FOID application that must be filled out, signed, and mailed to Springfield, IL. The Illinois State Police have a FOID section that then does the background check and issues the card.

    And its nonsense to say the least.
    Darn near anyone or anything can get one.

    The shooter was sent a form letter telling him he must voluntarily surrender his gun(s) and his FOID was revoked. Boy that worked out well, NOT.

    If I don't need an Picture ID to vote I sure as hell shouldn't need an ID to buy a gun either.

    I forgot to mention you have to include a specific size photo of your head. The last FOID card I applied for several years ago, they required a pic, but used my photo from my Illinois DL...

    The state screwed up at least twice. Also if he bought the gun from a dealer or an individual in Illinois another background check had to be run. Of course the Illinois Democrat are now screaming for more laws when they aren't enforcing the existing ones. My guess is that they only sent a letter telling him to surrender the gun because no one had the stones to go get it. If they get the asault weapons ban they want and make us register the existing guns and then later on decide we have to give them up, will they have the stones to go get them?

    Perhaps the founders of this country should have made the 11th Amendment to the Constitution stating that CITIZENS don't have to get the permission of ANY government body to have the rights guaranteed in the Constitution. For all their wisdom they probably couldn't imagine that the citizens of this country would let their elected representatives restrict our Constitutional rights and require permits to use them.

    Ah! The answer is simple: There was no procedure written by the state police for this particular situation.

    That's why I used to be able to earn a living as a Computer Systems Analyst. When you create a system, you have to figure out every possible scenario, & who is responsible for doing what. Typical of leftists, IL politicians failed to see the big picture.

    No problem, though; they will fix it with more gun laws.
