I hear that have been very active recently - but our media is clueless if it's not anti Trump news
Anybody serve or train with them - anybody been to there home base
What's the unit history and makeup and TOE - what's the weapons load out
Any light armor - have they done a vertical envelopment - what do they drop from
Anything beyond a simple Jane's brief???
How are they doing against the Muslim skinnies and technicals???
I must admit to knowing almost nothing about them or Portugal military capacity in general
Surely on of our operators has authorization to were their wings or has a challenge coin or unit patch...

They are fighting in Central African Republic or CAR.
This is a state that has never been at peace since 1963 or so when it gained independence.

What a damn mess Sam. How you did it all those years I'll never know. A couple of questions:
1) If the Portuguese are there, why? Access to natural resources? Paid Govt. "trainers"? Just to poke the "Blue Helmets" in the eye? What's their motivation?
2) Where does the funding for the current crop of "rebels" come from? Outside muslim entities?
Looking at the background graffiti and listening to some of these individuals, it's obvious the French influence remains, to some degree, at least in the language etc.0 -
Most of the funding comes from taxing the areas they control and diamonds.
They are part of the Peacekeeping efforts in the CAR. They are also very active in Somalia and Mali.
They get paid for it from the UN. There are several countrys who actively "Lend" their military to the UN.
The UN pays X amount to the country and then the country pays their soldiers. Usually the amount is more than they pay the soldiers, so they make a few bucks pimping out their joes.
BTW the US doesn't take $$ from the UN when they deploy soldiers in support of UN operations.0 -

Hmmm, the US doesn't take $$ from the UN BUT, when stuck with that duty, our folks still have to wear the damn blue helmets and are under so called UN command right? What a crappy assignment that has to be.0
