Dogs and seat belts
Well the pup decided that seat belts taste delicious. I didn't notice the passenger one at first, but now the drivers is stuffed. I need to replace them. It's an 2011 Silverado and the type of belts are expensive. It seems the days of going to the junk yard, pulling a set out and repairing them, is gone.
So to stop this happening again, does anyone have a suggestion. I was thinking of painting the new belts in Tabasco or something like that.
I take the dogs with me most places I go. The big dogs just sleep, but the young fella gets bored I think.

If you spray them with Tabasco, it'll get all over your clothes.
If they do it while your present also, I would take the spray bottle and put cold water in it. Then every time we touched your seat belts and scored them in the face with it...
If they are only doing it when you're not present, the first thing I would do is make sure they have plenty of toys to play with so they don't naw on your things..
If that doesn't work, get a shock collar and put them in the car to where you can see them but they don't know you're there. Then every time they touch your seat belts shock them.
Shock collars do not start out shocking. They start out emitting a noise that dogs don't like, so most of the time they will be deterred before you have to shock them. If they're stubborn, you may have to up it to where it shocks0 -

By the way, you can also get aftermarket seat belts for your vehicle off of fleabay for fairly cheap to replace the ones your dogs already chewed up 0 -

The problem is this model has an extendable piece that the belt hangs off of near the roof.It's a Silverado. To get a real one from GM, it's a couple hundred bucks for the whole unit. I just found a place that you send in your whole unit and they re-belt it. I'll get a cheap universal one and see if I can get it to replace an original and work and send in one to get repaired and see if that works. 0 -

I would call local wrecking yards or go on line I am sure lots of places would sell you a set out of a crashed or trashed truck
even check the ( fleabay ) auctions I would guess some on there also
too get them to stop not sure what to tell you

Can you post a link of where you can get seat belts repaired. I bought a pickup that the previous owner had a pit bull that he left inside of pickup while he worked construction all day, and the dog ripped everything apart...
Also, I was just thinking that a local upholstery shop can reweb for you0 -
Also, if you want to use it chew deterrent, they have some that are commercially available oh, here's a link to one of them that won't stain your clothing or your seattbelts

The young dog probably has a separation anxiety when you leave him alone and chews things that are available. Give him something else (safe dog chew toy) to chew on when you leave the truck. Might work. Or put him in a kennel box. 0 -

Not letting my dog in the vehicle? (He does backflips if asked "Wanna go for a ride.") He is extremely well behaved in the vehicles. However, he does not get alone time in said vehicle.0 -

They sell this stuff called Bitter Yuck I have never tried it on an object but it works to keep dogs from licking wounds or hot spots.
