Finally Looking Forward To Something
It has been a long time coming but i think i have turned a corner. Since i got cancer in 2010 and was done with cancer in 2012 i have not been interested in anything.
Most days i will clean up the house and vacuum every other day because of one shedding dog.
Since cancer i have bought about 15 guns and shot them but that is about it. I will sight them in and then put them in a safe and their they sit.
Over the last few weeks i have been looking into building knives and black powder pistols.
I am planning on building my 3 boys a knife for Christmas along with my 2 grandsons and my daughters fiance. So thats 6 knives by Christmas.
I am getting some motivation to finally do something. I have an interest in something so maybe i can get the shop straightened up so i can make something.
I am limited in what i can do in a day but i can do a little every day. So i am ready to start.
I made a list on the minimum i want to get done this week in the shop.
I have to have a clean shop before i can start making something. I hate looking for tools and having clutter around my work space.[:)]

Good!
Now how you going to go about it? Hammer forged, cut an grind.......?
It's a lot of work and gathering to set up a forge and anvil for just 6 knives. You can make good quality knives out of good steel. My uncle used to make knives out of what he had around, and he made some really good, nice looking ones. He made several out of a crosscut saw to name one way. He didn't run a forge but put time and quality into metal finish and nice handles.0 -
Good plan. You have to keep moving within your limitations. I had major heart surgery about two years ago and was prety much back to normal within a few months but can't work the hours I used to. Do as muchas I am comfortable with and take a break or quit for the day. 0 -
Good for you Dave. Pace yourself, don't do too much at a time that will end up setting you back. Best wishes. 0 -
Dave
I have some projects and hobby work
I have the chores and the house / animal care work
I have taken on some research work and some inspection - evaluation - cleaning - spec and data stuff
Sometimes I have the desire - sometimes not
Sometimes I have the energy and ability - often not
I have been pushing to stay engaged and delude myself that I can still pull my weight or make a contribution of value
Because it's not enough for you or me to survive - we were meant to live - and to work - and to build - and to learn
I salute you - welcome back - don't stop pushing - nobody fights alone
I would much rather here you died in the shop on your feet building with or for family than sitting in a chair or laying in a bed still not feeling purpose

I feel your pain. Took my over three years to feel half way descent. I have a sleeve done and things just went wrong. After 18 days in the hospital and then a car accident that give me a hernia and a concussion, I understand.
