Colt ?
I only have 2 Colts. A lawman and a trooper. Why are they so much cheaper than the snake guns?

Hype - production numbers - more folks wanting them then pieces available on the market

Those models were working guns; i.e., mostly used by law enforcement. They didn't have to be pretty, just go "bang" every time.
Problem was, with the Mark III versions, they were too expensive to manufacture (& compete with Ruger). The lock work required hand fitting, & polishing was done on Colt's abrasive wall. So, the working guns were redesigned in the early 1980's, & became the cheaper-to-make Mark V.
Target & BBQ guns still cost more to make, so there was always a price gap. The Python was always a premium gun, & no one thought that the Cobra was fancy. So, you can't always go by the name.
