Florida Yankee and Southern Manners...
...and the law
I live way out in the woods in the North Carolina mountains.
Fifteen years ago a Florida Yankee moved up here on to my mountain.
He was my closest neighbor but he was still 1/2 mile away.
Frank grew up in Buffalo New York and then moved with his wife Karen down to Ft. Lauderdale. They moved North from Florida but only made it half the way back, we call 'em halfbacks.
At age 45 he moved up here with Karen onto the mountain. He built a nice log cabin up here on the mountain, actually he hired it out he didn't build it himself.
So after three years up here, Frank and Karen were getting divorced. They owned the cabin worth about $300K, plus they owned a restaurant they had built worth $700K, they had a lot of assets.
They were in the big Madison County courthouse for the divorce proceedings.
And the judge ruled in favor of Karen.
And Frank said, in open court, "No wonder you gave her everything she asked for. She has been s****** your **** for the past 4 weeks."
And the judge said "What did you say, Boy?"
And Frank said "I didn't say nothing just talking to myself."
And the judge said to the court reporter, "Read back the last two sentences spoken by the defendant, Verbatim!"
And the court reporter said, "The defendant said, 'No wonder you gave her everything she asked for. She has been s****** your **** for the past 4 weeks."
And the judge said, "Contempt of Court!! Thirty days confinement!"
And the Florida Yankee pulled out his check book and said, "Who do I make out the check to, what is it, $2,500?"
And the Madison County Sheriff walked up to Frank and said "The judge didn't say anything about writing a check. Place your hands behind your back."
And the Sheriff cuffed Frank up and marched him across the street to the old Madison County jail, and he served 30 days.
