Youtube Part 2 LOL

I watched this video and i can not figure out how he made the side of the knife.

He put the blade on angle iron and the blade is square to the belt so how did he get the steel tapered. He has a nice clean line from about 1/2 inch on the blade and tapered it down to the edge.

I dont understand how he did that with the angle iron flat and square to the sander.

What am i missing?

Also i do not know the proper name from where the blade is flat and then starts to taper. What are them parts called?

    Re-watch the video from the 4:28 mark. It shows how the curved bit of the blade was 'ground'. (hint: He didn't use 'angle iron')


    While he may have used the 'angle iron' to square the blade spine to the belt, the blade isn't held flat to the belt. He's holding it at the angle he wants the blade to be.

    He made the point using an angle grinder (1:40, not well shown)

    If you're asking about how he beveled the blade to the edge when he holds it against the angle iron fence he pushes the cutting edge against the belt while holding the back part against the fence.

    Then he moves away from the fence and free-hands the curve edge.

    Good job, but belt sanders are a good way to erase your fingernails and finger prints[:(]
