Check with your doctor; there are now several good drugs for nausea.

I like Reglan for occasional nausea. HEED THE WARNINGS ON THE PACKAGE INSERT.

You might want to try sorbet or sherbet instead of ice cream.

I have scrips for two good anti nausea meds

However when it strikes and is bad nothing seems to work - not even a push of zofram through an IV at the hospital

They have me eat vanilla bean ice-cream to keep weight up and it's easy on the digestive system and stomach

The smell and taste were not altered by the chemo

I alternated Zofran and Compazine during the worst of my nausea about 3 hours apart. They each work differently and together they helped when one or the other wouldn't work alone.

My go to food was peanut butter on a toasted English muffin. Seemed to do the best for me during the worst bouts of nausea.

    Hope you find some relief

It's not the end of the world - one of the seemingly permanent intractable nasty side effects I have to deal with

The daily nausea is usually well within my ability to deal with but every month or two there are some bad days

    Mike,
Could it be the ice cream?
    Have you tired Frozen Yogurt??
I can't handle ice cream and have found Kemp's Frozen Yogurt works.

    STAY STRONG

The ice cream actually helps - the nutrition Doc recommended it

When I am in the hospital they actually put it on my dietary order

They give you Dixie cups from the kitchen - usually half melted though by the time you get it

Doubled up on the nausea meds tonight - won't even try eating

Bad enough that I am retreating to my music with my headphones on for awhile - turn the lights off and just breathe it out

Much as I hate retreating and curling up into a ball while trying to find my happy place in my head - it's better then being in the ER

they tell me if I don't eat for 48 hours or have bad dry heaves for more than 3 days they want me in the hospital

I managed a baked potato this morning and about a dozen Ritz crackers in the afternoon

And I have retained my meds so it's not all bad

Sick 3 times in 6 hours last night - probably spent an hour dry heaving - but no passing out or blood expelled

I do read and care about everyone's feedback - let's me know that people care - let's me burn off rage

I have received great advice here and others tell me that they have learned or benefited from what I post

The animals get upset when I get sick

Try licorice and ginger in capsule form. You can get them at GNC or Amazon. Recommended by chemo doctor. Said sometimes old time remedies really do work.

Funny the hospital always has mini pony cans of Shasta ginger ale in a fridge next to the ice maker on each ward / floor

    That and saltine crackers

Oddly wild cherry life savors also seem to help - you would think the strong taste and smell would be problematic

The worst is when I drink a bottle of water and can't keep that down - there is something wrong with puking clear water in volume

They actually made me a protective mouth guard because when it's real bad I tend to clench my jaws hard - like for hours

A fresh Amoroso roll - at least a few bites can help

Good advice though - I have some new stuff to try and tips to pass on

A number of different causes and a number of different ways to help.

quote:marijuana smoked will do a lot to settle the stomach and reduce mausea. Not sure where you rowst so that may or may not be an option.

Relaxation in a location with some breeze or air movement can help. Make sure the oders are pleasant. Breeze off a pig pen is not going to work well.

This is not your first go around so I will give some assumption the cause or causes are known and other proper meds are taken. Make sure you are staying hydrated and without constipation. Also make sure your kidneys are clear and functioning well. Some cranberry juice is good for that.

Your head gently resting on the bare chest of your girl/lady will reduce stress and help a lot. (not at all sure about this last one, but sure sounds like a good idea, and I can't see any harm) It calms a baby, so has to have benifit for us older folks in missory. For gods sake woman it is for midisanal purposes ! (PS: this is not just BS - it does work)

So when they diagnosed me as stage IV colon rectal cancer - massive advanced tumor which had spread to the lymph nodes - there were not many options

I had a little used sledgehammer platinum based chemotherapy that involved a schedule of 2 weeks on infusion and 5 days off for 3 months

Also took heavy doses of oral chemo meds daily

Radiation therapy was also an intensive program - producing visible external radiation burns

Survival rate for my cancer is less than 1%

The treatment regimen I was on had a high mortality rate - less then 5% survive to complete the course - a significant percentage expire before 90 days is up or to see surgery if possible

So while they ascribe the symptoms and side effects that have more or less permanently manifested the causality is not clearly understood

There are no case studies because there are essentially no survivors to compare charts and histories and treatment efficacy against

    I am a white whale - a unicorn - I am unobtainium...

    Makes me a difficult patient
