computer recomendation
I would like to update my old Dell that I bought in 2011
I would like to stay with Dell because they are having a presidents day sale
I do no business what so ever on the one I am using now. I use it for E mails, gun broker and other forums along with games that are installed on the computer
I do need a program for office type work letters spread sheet etc.
I store a lot of pictures
I want something fast and would like to keep the price around $500. -$700

If you want fast then get one with a solid state drive SSD. I just bought this new Dell and I can be on line in l5 seconds from turning on the power.
Dell - 2-in-1 Touch-Screen Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7 - 12GB Memory - AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 - 256GB Solid State Drive
Got mine for less than $700 at Best Buy.0 -

I wouldn't keep pics on that without a back up. External or thumb drives. If your old Dell can be re-built I'd use that for saving only (no connection to interweb) or let that one take the hit with all kinds of interweb cooties. 0 -
I do not shop at Best Buy.
They have an agreement with the fellas with the bulges in the cheap suits; if they find porn on your computer, or anything that looks close, they turn you in & you get arrested.

For back up, I used an external 2 tb hard drive (less than $100 and Western Digital has free software to back up in the background). 0 -

Are you serious or delirious???
So everyone here that opened the remote girl thread could go to jail??
As far as I know porn is not against any laws. You will have to ask Larry Flint and the Supreme Court to be sure.
You have a better chance of a federal investigation just being a member of GB than of being looked at for "porn or anything that looks like it".

Not many people use those old dinosaurs at home anymore. They just take up space and don't do anything that a laptop can't do these days.0 -
I recently bought a Dell business-class desktop with a 256 SSD, Win 10 Pro from Woot! It's factory refurbished, and not the latest model, but it does everything you and I want a desktop to go, is totally silent, and just screams fast.
For your office software, just download LibreOffice 6.2 which does everything that MS Office does (actually does more) and is totally free.

Jim, that's what I did with my old machine. I converted it to Linux Mint to serve as my emergency backup. With Mint plus Wine, it will even run my Quicken software. No troublesome Windows updates, quick start, malware free, already has Firefox and LibreOffice included, and completely free. 0 -

Really, that's okay I don't go to places like that anyway. The only people that would have to worry about that as people to go to websites such as you speak up...
Does your wife know you watch porn on your computer?
But all kidding aside, your reasoning of why you don't shop there is just like saying you won't drive down a car or go out in public because you might get pulled over by the police and they may check to see if you have any wants or warrants out for you. If you have nothing to fear, why fear it0 -

I'm, also, a Dell desktop fanatic. Wouldn't have anything but a Dell plus I never buy a new computer.. I, usually, can repair a desktop. Laptop, forget it.
As suggested, if you want speed,a solid state (SSD) drive is the way to go. And, if you want the SSD to perform at it's max speed, insure your new computer has a SATA 3 (6GB/s) port/header on the motherboard and the SSD is connected to it.
SSD's ultimate performance is when it's connected to a SATA 3 port.0 -

Get a Small form factor business computer. Unless your into gaming it should fit the bill.

Yep, stay with Dell. Used them since 2003 and NO PROBLEMS. Just bought my third Dell laptop with a core I5 256GB SSD and it's a whole different machine, quiet and fast.
The old Dell - I5 still works great but decided I'd get a computer for the states and two overseas. Probably having a SDD entered into the decision.[:D]
OH, the new computer didn't have a lighted keyboard but the price was right. I do like the lighted keyboards.0
