I guess Trump needed it more?
Just had my taxes done and getting less in Fed this time round. Less $62 [V]. That would've paid most of the two boxes of .168Win Black Hills.
State wise I'm up $11 from last year. A 10 piece legs and thighs from KFC if I got a coupon. I think unless they raised the price again or removed a piece to keep it $10.
I hope I get the check before the gun show in March. Gots to hoard the ammo like a squirrel with nuts.

Well you should talk with Pelosi and Schumer regarding your loss. They would love to take away your vehicles and airline pass. 0 -
Since withholding went down it stands to reason you would get less back all else being the same 0 -
How much more was your take home each pay period? 0 -

This. Nobody ever looks at that come tax return time.
all they can see is what's in front of their eyes, they never look at the whole picture0 -

I agree. My weekly went up about $30. I try and set up my taxes where I have to pay a nominal amount. I believe I paid about $83, between VA. and Federal. (TN has no "Income Tax.")
Whenever Co-workers etc. Crow about how large their "Return," will be - I merely ask them why they give interest free loans to the Govt. (?)
I usually get blank looks.0 -
Size of refund isn't what counts, it's the total amount paid. Are you actually PAYING more or are you just getting less back because less was withheld?
People in blue states with high state taxes may pay more to feds because the deduction for state taxes was eliminated. Will affect those in CA, NY etc more than folks in other states.
BTW- What is a tax refund? Both my wife and I have withholding, and we pay quarterly installments but we still have to come up with a couple thousand come April. It sure doesn't feel like we make that much to get taxed so heavily but the IRS sure thinks so.0 -

Interest on savings accounts are .1% at present...not much of a interest free loan.0 -
As noted the media is having a filed day with the "lack of refunds" refusing to report the real tax. 0 -

Letting the Government keep your hard earned money during the course of the year, only to "Refund," it to you at the end of the year, is in effect - an Interest Free Loan. I choose not to partake in that plan.

I'll have to look at the stubs 2017 and 2018 to compare. Since I make peanuts and tail end of 2018 was rough with my dumb ass committed to buy the White Feather.0 -

There's a big difference between interest on savings in interest on loans.
I'm currently getting 5% per month on the loans I've let out. That's half what the pawn shops in the area do0 -
Looking at your refund as a gauge to what you paid in taxes is like looking at you change to see what you paid for a purchase. 0 -

How about I just keep my hard earned money to do with what I will. How much will that run me?
Do you get 5% back from your Loan, to the Government? I think not.0 -
A tiny bit better than .1%,....100K sitting there makes you $2,250.00 a year. Better than the 100 bucks .1% gets you, or letting the Feds have it IMO.

In true shallow fashion, ABC is running an "I got less $$$ tax return" with no mention of higher monthly take home. Basic math and a bit of common sense - keeping more and not giving the government a free loan trumps getting back a bit more the following year. I don't know if filers netted more or less. But that ABC News didn't even discuss it - pretty weak reporting. 0
