The book, "The Pinfire System", by Smith & Curtis. Has a chapter on pinfire pistols used in the, C*I*V*I*L* W*A*R. Many thousands of the Lefaucheux, primarily in 12 mm, were imported and used by both sides.
Nothing is mentioned in the book about them being Nickel Plated. And the ones show in photos aren't. Even the engraved ones.
My understanding is that the general use of Nickel Plating. Didn't become commercially viable. Until the late 1860's. Which would preclude, them being used in the C*I*V*I*L W*A*R.0
