Prayers for our WA state members
Gov Inslee has declared a "STATE OF EMERGENCY" on account of the DEADLY winter weather.
There must be some horrible avalanches, landslides, flooding, building collapses, etc.
I heard a tree fell down in the evergreen state!
The HORROR is probably unimaginable.
Godspeed to those suffering members up north.

I recall working up a pickup load of firewood at -25 and 30 mph winds.
Don't know what the windchill was, but I couldn't wear enough clothes to stay out there for more than 15 mins or so at a time.
It wasn't an "emergency", it was just winter in eastern montana.
10x worse than anything "snowflake Inslee" is experiencing in his state.
But you stay safe and warm.0 -
It might be just winter when you are used to it, but when you havent seen a flake in a couple of years and you have few if any plows, it damn well might be an emergency! Daughter had eight inches a few days ago in Wa. and it shut everything down then, more now could put a lot of people in trouble. All those city type people arent as able to coupe with it like you mountain hillbillies. 0 -
By sunrise tomorrow, I'll be travelling the Columbia gorge for work.
I'll stay on the Orygone side, cuz the other side of the river will be in a "state of emergency".

-92 (without windchill?) most certainly qualifies and I suppose those big steel balls of yours must have been turning blue after 17 hrs of it.
I'm confident I won't be subjected to anything like that in the gorge, and neither will anyone in Washington.

Wa voters defeated a carbon tax initiative on the last ballot.
Even the libs in "The Great White North" were sharp enough to see it for what it was.
Inslee will now sensationalize every weather event, no matter how normal, to build his case for "global climate change" and the absolute need for a carbon tax.
Judging by the critical thinking skills exhibited on this forum, his success is assured.
BTW, Thanks for helping out those elderly neighbors.
But more than that, thanks for letting us all know about it.
I've noticed, on these boards, the only thing more rewarding than doing good for your fellow man, is to be SEEN doing good for your fellow man!

Wind chill does not lower the temp below the actual air temp, it just gets you there quicker.0 -
In 2014 we had almost a full week at -20? -30? and I was working at the truck shop. Soent that entire week in the service truck running around starting gelled trucks, large and small. And I?ll never for the life of me understand why people run the battery(ies) completely dead before calling for help. If your diesel doesn?t start DON?T KEEP
CRANKING TILL THE JUICE IS GONE!!!! It takes roughly an hour to prep a diesel to start after gelling, takes even longer when you kill the batteries. At least I perfected rhe art of ungelling and starting them, my truck gets healthy doeses of anti gell in hopes I never have to do it again!0 -

For your edification, "windchill" is how cold it FEELS on exposed skin. Nothing more. If you're out in 6? temps with 21 mph wind, here's a thought, bundle up, COVER your exposed skin. Or better yet, go back inside.
BTW, I AM elderly. If I was foolish enough to step outside, I might just be subjected to your current temps, and winter or summer, I'm ALWAYS hoping the power company doesn't have problems.

We had 20mph wind gusts and maybe another 8? of snow here in Yakima. Tomorrow morning I?ll fire up the snow blower. I drove to work in 4x4 with no problem at 10:30pm. We?re supposed to get more snow this week but honestly it nothing compared to what people in Montana or Colorado etc get. 0 -

Well my mom who is retired but wont leave the god foresaken city of Seattle is retired lives on 10 acres and she is on a well. I hope she at least went to her house in Eastern Washington before the snow came. 0 -

My contribution to this thread was acknowledging and doing something for my elderly neighbors, both alone, 88 and 92 years old, preparing them for a worst case scenario if the power goes out and it does several times every year during winter storms. This has nothing to do with being outside and how durable you are. It's about preventing someone elderly and alone from having to wrap with blankets and multiple layers of clothing to avoid dying. Yea, sure, you're elderly.
Just wanted to make sure your predictably vainglorious response could be easily seen by all, lest some be unaware of the saint in our midst.
As I'm sure you know, all the institutions you list in your response to FCD differentiate between actual temp and wind chill. You didn't, until other members called B.S. on your fugitive hunting in -92?.[;)]0 -

I can't imagine being so jaded that the idea of helping others or being made aware that there are people out there who might be going through a difficult time would set a person off. Its these people that I feel the sorriest for. Life is a pit of constant complaints and that is a sad state to live your life. 0 -

You are truly the most pitiful thing if you think sharing random stories is anything but sharing stories.....which is why this place exists.
I'm sure glad people are here to tell all their stories or it would be full of sarcastic sadness and futile misery.....which some seem to be plumb eat up with.0
