Advice needed about safe for home.

Deb and I are looking for a small fire resistant home safe - somewhere around 1 1/2 to 2 cubic feet, just for document storage. On-line reviews are not helping. So many folks cite mold problems with safes of this type and size. Anyone have any experience or recommendations? Brand name and model would really help. Thanks.

    Not sure I can help I live in a very humid climate we keep the house conditioned though and we have never had any issue.

    I suppose in a extended power outage after depleting the generator fuel it could get steamy. You could always add a bag of desiccant.

    I have a small safe and a large safe and we have never had any humidity issues, if I stored the safe in the garage that would be different.

    to many stupid thing can happen at home ..safe deposit box at a bank is better odds..tornado can take a house and bank but the safe deposit room will still be there

    Indicating Silica Gel Desiccant Beads... But make sure you get the color changing indicating type so that you know when you have to change it.

    Had one. gave it up. Safe will hold trust papers (among others) to include our medical powers of attorney. A three-day holiday weekend could mean three days that those needing our medical powers of attorney couldn't access them for 72 hours or more - way too long to need them but have them locked away in a bank vault. Hence the home safe.

    I have found small safes are never big enough for my needs. I keep important papers on a shelf in my 6' high Liberty gun safe. No one is going to walk away with that big monster!

    I know this does not answer your question- but have you considered a safety deposit box at your bank or credit union?

    They?re cheap ~$20 a year and humidity controlled.

    If you dont need to access the documents regularly like car titles and such it might be an option.

    Bank box is the safest and most secure option for documents. Other wise buy a larger safe that is highly fire resistant, add a golden rod to keep humidity down and also store guns in the safe.

    Banks do get robbed, & vaults are subject to flooding or high humidity.

    Read the agreement that the bank has you sign: they are not responsible for anything that happens to your stuff in a box.

    I have a large gun safe, and my document safe is inside that.
