Are you saying the bore is worn out?? If so I guess you either replace the barrel or live with it. Depending on the condition of the rest of the gun,the price of replacing the barrel and if I planned on selling the gun right away. 0 -

That's what I'm asking gun came in on consignment and Iam puzzled as to why it gaged well but the rifling is gone0 -
Use a really good solvent and wire brush. I like Shooter's Choice. Maybe its leaded up from cast bullets. 0 -
M1 Carbines had the most shallow rifleing of any military gun ever made.
Put a tight patch on a cleaning rod and pull it thru the barrel,
see if the rod spins. Bet it does.

Babun is likely correct.
The M1 carbine round is basically a handgun cartridge. So, we don't need to worry about Throat Erosion, either. Headspace only needs to be checked when installing a new barrel.
If you ever do need to replace the barrel, you will only find commercial barrels. USGI M1 carbine barrels can no longer be found.

+1 to nmyers
Just my opinion, but I rather have a slightly worn GI original
barrel on a M1 carbine, than a replacement that doesn't match.
It's more than 70 years old, the money is in matching parts, not how well it groups at 100 yards.
