New Vocabulary word - long range?
I was watching Guns & Ammo TV the other day where one of the hosts was shooting a 300 Win Mag out to 2200 yards. When he was done shooting he said 'Fordoff is free and space is free'.
My question is: What in tarnation is 'Fordoff'? (I even used the closed captions to see what my ears were hearing)
Searching the www was of no use. Any ideas?

Ready on the right - ready on the left - ready on the firing line - the range is ready - space is free - you may commence firing
When I was a kid / junior shooter I would go to 4 position snakebite rifle matches and high power matches (national championships)
The above referenced dialogue was part of the range safety officer / range master firing line instructions - it's burned into my brain - it was also the verbiage used at the US Olympic training center in Colorado Springs (or was when I was a participant)

It pays to keep 'rooting around'.
Apparently the host and his spotter were using the Hornady Ballistics calculator known as the 4DOF Ballistics Calculator.
Whomever was writing the closed captions didn't know about the 4DOF and wrote 'fordoff'. Mystery solved.

Yes ballistic programs can help get you on paper with a lot less ammo.
added. Those that shoot well - shoot often. You have to shoot at them in order to hit them - 100% of the shots not taken are "misses". Nothing replaces a well aimed shot. Doping the wind is the hardest part to master. Next is estimating the range. Breathing, trigger control, sight picture, not canting the weapon are much easier.0 -
I have trouble hitting what I'm aiming at at 200 yds. Ballistic program or not. Don't understand, how it's possible to hit anything consistently. At 1 1/4 miles, +?. Without a lot of ranging shots, and a whole lot of luck. Exercise in futility, and a waste of a lot of expensive ammo. As far as I'm concerned. 0 -

It took the shooter 3 shots to get on target due to windage. Good thing he had a spotter.
Google 'King of 2 miles' to see science and luck in play.
