Redneck Kitchen Engineering -
I am thinking of replacing my Kitchen Island, with my Craftsman Roll about tool cart. Covered with a Butcher block countertop.
Industrial/functional, what's not to love?

Great idea. Just remove the two saw horses and 4x8 half sheet of plywood that comprises your present island and wheel the tool box in. The new island will have all the drawers for knives and kitchen tools plus lots of room for the necessities. Pickled pigs feet, pickled eggs, pickled okra,pickled pickles. 0 -

The Butcher Block counter top is large enough, you will not even see the cart. It does, as you say, have drawers to hide all my various kitchen utensils. Industrial caster wheels. Top slides to one side, revealing another storage container underneath. It seems way better engineered than my current (wood) kitchen island.
Measurement wise, it is larger than my current island, that has issues. I believe it will work fine/better than what I currently have.
I see no downside, except the ribbing. [^]0 -
I had a girlfriend that repurposed her ex-husbands Craftsman's tool chest for that purpose...[B)]
My ex-daughter-in-law repurposed my son's Craftsman tool chest to use in her hair salon.[B)]
If I were you I don't think I'd want to do it, other guys would probably figure you stole it from an ex-lover like these other gals did[:0][:0][B)][:D]0 -

I have seen rolling tool cabinets used in the kitchen several places.
Mobile work surface
Lots of drawer space
Easy to clean up (put a good carnauba wax job on it)
I have told my wife I am going to to that when we redo the kitchen...she is all for it.0 -
I was wheeled into an o.r. for carpal tunnel surgery and what do I see? Yep, a craftsman tool chest. It was an orthopedic hospital. I wondered what kind of tools they had in there then I realized I didn't actually want to know. 0 -
And since your craftsman is all steel, you might be able to convert a few drawers into a smoker. 0 -

speaking as a part redneck I have seen buddies with there Harley parked in there living room's for the winter , old wire spools for tables
discarded furniture of assorted history and milk crates . having a tool box would have been a major upgrade . for many of them
but really I see nothing wrong with your re purpose your house your rules
sturdy lots of storage
toss in a couple craftsman work stools and your set0 -
I have to agree there Ditch-Runner. You know concrete blocks are
not for just outside the house. You can have all kinds of uses for blocks inside for kitchen use, motorcycle stands, coffee tables, bookshelves, chairs, tv stand, indoor bbq pit cooking, 1001 uses.0 -
Having a "galley" (narrow) style kitchen, all I can be is jealous of your idea Ken!
When both me and my Mrs. are working together on some meal project, we often times find ourselves looking like a couple of stooges trying to get through the door at the same time![:0]
On a more positive note, these brushes against a female form have often led to......[}:)][:p]

i thought about something like this, after i retired from a 43 year machinist career, but the rubber wheels have a steel chip retread on it and would not be too good on these new flooring surfaces...however it wouldn't slide away unattended either..[8] 0 -

If you belong to Sam's club, they offer Seville stainless cabinets with wood tops which need assembly but are an excellent value for the style. The rolling storage carts fit under the 6ft. wood top workbench.

Mine is the more tasteful Black. Wheels on and mobile is key. Will be taking the large piece of butchers block off the current island.0 -

I can feel your pain. My last house (previous to the one I am currently in.) Was an 800 square foot 1947 Chestnut Log cabin on the NY/NJ line. Smallest kitchen and bathroom ever. It was a challenge. I LOVED the rest of the house, and it's location. In the Mountains, Appalachian Trail behind my house, Bearfort Mountain/Ridge. Greenwood Lake in front of my house. Beautiful.0 -

For butcher block craftsman is OK, but granite, Snap On is the cats meow.[:D] Not sure about the black, better using brown/beige/black granite chips with real wood trim. 0
