If you just noticed this, you've been in a coma for several years.
They started this because it was divisive and hurtful to not give winter storms names. They didn't want winter storms to feel less fulfilled or valuable than tropical storms. It's in the spirit of equality and diversity, don'tcha know?
Next, they'll hand out Participation Trophies to storms that don't meet the catastrophic forecasts they are given.0
