Saw this on another website forum. They were discussing how a Steyr GB is a great pistol, (I agree, and I own four of them) but some folks were saying buy a GLOKE instead (the Steyr GB was beaten out by the GLOKE 17 in military trials in Austria, and by the Beretta 92 in US trials):
"But then I would have a Glock. Ewwwwhh!! [xx(] I don't have one for the same reason I don't have a Timex watch. Yes, a Timex will do everything a vintage Omega will do. Yes, it is cheaper to buy and has all kinds of gew-gaws available at any Wal-Mart. You can list all the positives (and there are many) but at the end of the day its still a Timex."
This sums up my feelings very well. I don't know (stir stir) if anyone has ever said this about a 1911.

I have owned and shot a GB and it was a decent pistol albeit very dirty as it is a piston gun. My personal choice between the two would be a G17 as it?s around 8 oz lighter and for me shoots at least as well. Of course parts and accessories are much cheaper and easier to find for Glocks. For example I see here on GunBroker the asking price for a GB mag is $200.00 where a G17 mag is less than $30.00. They are both great handguns. 0 -

Just a "stirring the pot" thing. No offense, as I said I own three (G17, G17, G21), but I own 4 GBs. And about two dozen 1911s.
I am of the opinion that if the GB had won the contract(s) everyone here would be singing their praises and pouring crap on that "plastic gun". But that's not what happened.0 -

I don't like pot stirrers...and I also don't like Glocks. The Styer GB is a gentle recoiling pistol and the controls were well laid out. Disassembly is also quite easy. On the other hand the GB is big and awkward; more so than the Beretta 92, and that is saying something. 0 -
I don't like any striker fire that doesn't have an external safety
Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. If you train with it they're safe as any other gun on them... But there are some people that have a life other than training with a pistol. Hell even LEOS that are supposed to be properly trained shoot themselves with a striker fire.0 -

Like the MAGTF...
All depends on the use. The Glock is small enough for concealed edc. The Omega keeps decent time (gains 2 min per day) and I wear it every day.
I plink with my 1911 and wear my el cheapo watch when painting.
Both great guns and both great watches...0 -

I like most all guns some more than others, I never had a Steyr Gas break sounds like a dirty operating gun sort of like the AR.0 -
Glocks are still my preferred carry gun, aside from my 938 for pocket carry. We'll see if I can I bring myself to carry my ECO once I qualify with it and make sure it runs JHPs. 0 -
I've never seen an Omega watch "take a licked and keep on ticket" like a Timex can[:D]
And yes, I do have both Timex and Omega watches... I'd never where my Omega to work or my Timex when I get dressed up[^]0 -

I am issued a Gen 4 G21...carry it on duty everyday I work. Fine defensive pistols. We've had G21s for over a decade now and they've performed very well. We haven't had any breakages.0 -
Interesting comparison analogy of time pieces to pistols. Yes the timex vs rolex etc and its only measuring time. Of course your phone does that as well.
With pistols its more like vehicle preference since performance and applications are factors. So some like Fords and others like Mazaratti.

I noticed there are 6 slide makers on Midway alone to "improve" your Glock.
Nothing against Glocks. They are the Hyundai of pistols and that is meant as a compliment.
They do not fit my hand like a Sig P228/9 or a p227 in 45 and I prefer the Sig for other reasons (They point better for me)
I am very turned off by the requirement to pull the Glock trigger to disassemble (yes, poor training is why those people died blah blah)
I am glad we have so many fine choices and can buy what we prefer0
