Watched it last night, Jap commander of POW camp required every prisoner daily to capture and bring in several Crickets/ roaches. Couldn't figure out the reasoning, Busy work ?

Great movie though.

  I saw or read something about breeding insects for protein to feed the growing masses of the world.
  
  I guess if McDonald's can use pink slime and make it pass for hamburgers roaches, lice, and other bugs might be a base for making passable food.

  Don't remember that from the book, but it has been 40+ years since I read it.
  
  Remember the 'King' cultivating rats for protein, but not crickets or roaches.

  man cannot live on rice soup alone, Got to find protein to throw in it for the prisoners somehow.
