I think my friend cheated

I?m going to reserve judgement.Some years ago a friend told Me He made His model steam engines from a kit.I said what You have .Isnt That cheating? I ate My words when I saw what He had to do to make what He did from a kit.

    My friends brother made me a knife and asked me what i wanted. I am friends with him but we are not close like i am with his brother.

    I told him i wanted a knife about 8 inches long with about a 3 1/2 inch blade made out of deer antler.

    I got a knife about 12 inches long with a deer handle. It looks so good like it came from a knife company.

    After looking online at knife blanks and guards i am about 99% sure that he bought a knife blank and supplied the antler for the handle.

    I did not pay anything for the knife because he owed me a favor. I helped him do some things out of the kindness of my heart and he wanted to pay me back.

    He made a knife for another friend that looked great. So i told him if it was no trouble i would like one. So he made it.

    He went from never making a knife to making beautiful knives in about 3 weeks. LOL Im pretty sure he just put the handle on.

    I was thinking about buying a couple knife blanks and shaping the blade like i want.

    However i think that is a fraud and cheating. The knife would be just for me though so i think i will build a few for me like i want.

    Would you do that or would you learn how to build it from scratch?

    I have a friend that does blacksmith full time so he would help me and let me use his forge.

    When I first started building Kentucky long rifles I bought a "KIT" from Track of the Wolf in Minnesota. It was a bunch of parts that cost at the time around 600 dollars (today they cost over a grand).

    It was very easy to build a 200 dollar rifle out of 600 dollars worth of parts!![:0][V]

    Today I make most of my own parts with exception to the barrels and locks. The word KIT has many meanings.

    Brookood where do you get the barrels and stuff from. Thats another thing i am interested in.

    I buy barrels from a few sources. Rice barrel company is a favored one. Top notch! Getz barrels out of Beaverton PA. Since my good friend Don Getz passed back in '14, his son has taken over the company but is hard to get ahold of. I have also used Green Mountain mostly for straight sided barrels but have also used a couple of their "swamped" barrels.

    For Locks, I favor Jim Chambers Flintlocks LTD out of North Carolina.
