I have never considered the caliber to determine value of a firearm. I think it would cost just as much to produce a quality rifle whatever the caliber. That is a lot of money but it is a very collectible rifle. It started at $1.00 and with 58 bids sold for over $4000.00. I guess that?s what it worth. [:)] I wish I had owned it. 0 -

I get sick thinking back at some of the guns that passed thru my hands.
At age 15, I was in a JR. rifle league that got ammo and guns from the
DCM to use.
We had 8 M1's and cases of old black tip AP ammo given to the club to teach kids shooting.
We just threw the M1's into a pile in a locker at the club after shooting. Heck, they were just old warhorses loaned to us kids.
And then all the Remington 514T 's with peep sites the kids without
suitable target guns used.
We looked upon them as handicaps and we bought better guns as quick as we could.

I have one in the "curley maple". At the range maybe 15 years ago some guy offered me more for just the stock than I paid for the entire gun. Maybe the "Lou Horton Special Addition" adds to the value[?] 0 -
I custom built a full stocked 1903-A3 action back in the 70's using a fairly high grade Maple - I think they called it a #2 grade fancy blank.
Nice looking rifle and as a matter of fact I liked the looks of that stock over this one. This one is a little too busy for my taste.
Back then it was hard to get your money back out of custom rifles unless you had a name. I sold it to an older fellow back then that collected custom builds. He was happy to get this one he claimed. He had bought several of Hap Ahlman's builds back then. Hap owned the Ahlman's gun shop in Morristown, MN. His son Larry still runs it today.
Looks like a fight on who's bank account is bigger took place on this one.0 -
