NICS and shutdown

What impact, if any, did the recent government shutdown have on the NICS (4473) system?

    None on standard firearm background checks.

    Clogged up the whole NFA system though.

    None. NICS is fully funded every year (around $40 million) and is a function of the FBI. As shootuadeal said, NFA checks are a function of the ATF and are a pay-as-you-go...and the employees didn't get paid! I have two Form 1s processing last August and I have given up all hope of seeing my tax stamps until Christmas.

    You can continue your argument with remingtonoaks at your pleasure, but your Curio and Relics FFL has nothing what so ever to do with NICS or Form 4473; both being used by dealers for transfers to non licensees at point of sale.

    Perhaps you have confused NICS with ATF EZ-Check.

    Sellers are encouraged to verify dealer FFL's with EZ-Check, but there is no such requirement for C&R licenses.

    Hi, Mark. I didn't mean to imply that C&R, NICS and 4473 were linked. My recent use of my C&R simply got me wondering whether the shutdown affected ATF business in any way -- pure curiosity, that's all. Knowing how government agencies work, stranger things could happen [:)].

    RemingtonOaks isnt a bad guy, but he definitely sees and assumes the negative more often than not and he cant help but share it quite often.
