I am sure someone will find a niche for it, but the fact Winchester introduced the round means if it don't sell, they will quit making both ammo and brass for it in a few years.
Also consider Winchester is not in the AR business.
Try to find ammo or brass for all the WW Short Magnums they introduced. 300 and 270 is all one can find around here and it is scarce and expensive.
Try to find 375 Win, 356, 307, 358 and a host of their other proprietary ammo introduced by WW or brass if you can. They say they will make a batch occasionally, but the truth is they make what sells and I cant blame them, but it sucks having a gun you cant find ammo for. Many folks don't reload.
Give Remington credit. At least they still catalog their poor sellers such as 6mm, 350mag etc and will make batches.0 -

I thought I was the only person that was thinking Winchester was just
throwing out "new" cartridges just to make sales for the first year or so.
I just knew those wssm's were a gimmick to sell guns.

The 2019 SHOT Show saw the release of the latest cartridge from Winchester?the .350 Legend. The new cartridge is a .223 case blown out to have straight walls, making it a perfectly viable choice for those states which require the use of a straight-walled rifle cartridge for deer hunting.
300 Blackout is interesting, but .350 Legend is about the single greatest reason for removing SBRs from NFA I have ever seen, except perhaps for a similar device in the 10MM Magnum cartridge; a 12" barreled suppressed Ruger PCC, similar to their 9MM version, in .350 Legend with a 12-18 round magazine answers nearly every home and personal defense question.0 -

While I am like you, I still have to ask what does need have to do with guns?[:p] I have so many different calibers in my collection, mostly outdated and mostly useless, I just can't run on need any more, it is about completing the WWII military handgun collection.0 -

From the G&A article the take away I got was the round was designed for several states who don't allow bottleneck cartridges for hunting deer.
The reason for the 223 case was Winchester makes plenty of them and they can use them for this cartridge and save $$
The reason for the 35 Cal is the bullets are made on the same machine as the 9mm and the fact that the min caliber for hunting in those states that restrict you to straight wall cartridges is 35 cal.
So the purpose of the round was to have a straight wall cartridge of 35 cal that meets the requirements of several mid western states, that will kill deer out to 250 yds and make the round as economical as possible.
And Joe at this time its a Rifle round and Winchester chambers their economy Bolt Action in it. I am sure T/C will make a barrel for it to be used on their Contender and Encore pistols.
BTW the round has very little recoil and muzzle blast so it would be a good round for kids or hunting in a box blind.0 -
The 350 legend is NOT a .223 case with a larger bullet.
It is fatter the entire length of the case AFTER the .223 rim size.
A .223/5.56 chamber will have to be cleaned up reamed to use the .350.
Note the .223 base size of .3772 OUTSIDE diameter with the
.350 INSIDE diameter of .3990.
Compare these specs with the above Sammi specs.0 -
I am just repeating what the article stated.
They(Winchester) said the 223 case was the basis of the case. I am sure that when thay make 223 the 1st steps produce the basic brass for the 350L. That brass goes one way and 223 goes another.
G&A made it clear the reason was to cut cost, availability of components and no need for extensive retooling.0 -

Why not just buy yourself an AR-10... They come in .308 and I'm sure the Apple's lot cheaper because the calipers already established...
That's going to be as obsolete as the .243 Remington and just about as fast or faster than the .243 Remington.

Intro'ed about 1955 then renamed after barrel twist rates were changed,
to the 6mm.
Lasted till 1965 IIRC.
